Was your battery disconnected or weak at all before getting this message? When mine went dead yesterday and after I got a jump start, my display also indicated that I needed to service Active Handling as well as the traction control. Those idiot lights were on too.
After I got the new battery, everything went back to normal. Can't believe your service dept. didn't have a clue.

Yep, the battery was disconnected and thats when the problem started, but they had the car all day today and still no word. THanks for the advice

If you did not do this already, let them know that you disconnected the battery and that is when the message started. Hopefully that will give them a clue on what to do. If it doesn't, find a dealer that can diagnose the car. Good luck.
The battery was disconnected at the dealership, not by me while in for repairs. I called earlier and they said a special tool is needed to check. So i'm without the car for a week now maybe longer while the tool is being ordered
I drove my car this past weekend and I got the same message. However, my car's battery has not been disconnected at all!! So, I checked the gages and cleared them and just kept driving. I am not about to take the car to a dealer or anywhere for that matter, I'll just keep driving it til ??????
I would have my car taken to a dealership that does have the necessary tools. I work for a gm dealer and if we don't have the right tool/tools to fix a car we drive to another store to get them or gm sends them overnight!!!
Your dealership is sadly misinformed. If you still need an answer just search for me "Jimbad" on the Forum and you will find the solution that my dealership came up with; I, and many others, have had the same problem. If you can't find my post send me an email I will get the repair sheets that I have and tell you what the tech did.
It's probably your wheel sensor. Same thing happened to mine, and many other folks on the board. It may be the battery thing also, but somewhere along the line the communication from the sensor is being lost. Either something is loose (like a plug) or the sensor has gone bad.
Also, just cuz your active handling system is disabled from an error doesn't mean you can't drive the car. If you can't take it somewhere and are forced to wait for them to get their act together, then certainly don't leave your car in their shop for a week. No telling what else could happen to it. I shudder at the idea of leaving my car at a dealer overnight!
Message is displayed as a warning and the dealership is saying that its rare and have no clue as to what to do
iam doing hu replacment and have battery disconnected and when i hook it back up got the same msg. i had to turn the ignition on and off for about 5 times then it went away. may want to give that a try.
Turning the ignition on and off does not make it "go away". It only stores the code in the history of the computer. Whatever caused the code in the first place is still there. Clear the code and see if it comes back..that is the only way to really determine if it was a temporary issue caused by a power cycle.
Took mine to the dealer and they called GM tech who stated that this has only occured about 5 times that they know of. They state that its a problem with the 3rd brake light and are going to replace it. WTF

What's the 3'rd brake light have to do with it? I know the computer monitors just about everything, but that's a little far fetched.
For willz30:
I get it on my C5 from time to time. The dealer should be able to pull the codes off to determine the problem. Mine shows up as a bad steering sensor or something. If I can figure out how to do it in my garage, they surely can figure it out. If not, take it somewhere else!

I think thats what the problem is, and they are going to fix it in the morning. But I will let u guys know more
I've heard of the battery being disconnected setting them off. But I had it happen after I was practicing autocross corners and my left front tire hit a wet spot on the road. That corner of my car slipped but I was in CM and AH straightened it out just fine. Then I got the DIC message.
When I took the car in to the dealer for the Service AH message, the service manager hooked up his Tech machine, then looked at me and asked how the heck I got my left front tire going faster than the rest of the car. I explained what had happened earlier, he just reset the codes, shook his head and walked off. No problems since then. Except he won't ride with me anymore for test drives.
I had a similar problem day one I picked up my 04 and after returning it 3x to find the problem (no codes) it ended up being a loose fuse holder in engine area buy the computer system. The mechanic found it by accident after connecting up some diagnosis equipment and moving wire around. Talk about needle in a hay stack!
Do a search on my name and look for active handling errors
