I'm new to the forum and this my 1st C5. I have owned the car for about a month now, and I must say... wished I would bought a C5 much earlier. I love this car! but, I have noticed a hard time shifting into 1st gear when I come to complete stop at lights. it doesn't happen every time. reverse is a little tuff too. I have a 99 coupe w/ 43k on it. is it my syncros? any advice would be appreciated. thanks
Have you tried letting the clutch out, then back in on those occasions?
You may need to do this a couple times on occassion. If that doesn't help
then it might be the syncros.

You may want to do a flush and fill on the tranny. If that doesn't help, it could be the syncros. Have a good mechanic look it over for you. Hopefully it will not be something major.

if i drop it into 2nd then back up 1st, no problem goes right into gear.

Agreed... works for me and seems normal.. also going to 2nd then 1st works too.. the splines sometimes dont line up and need to be re-aligned.

My MN6 used to be a little hard to shift sometimes. I have a B&M Ripper shifter and I thought that was it. I had the tranny flushed and refilled with Red-Line and I noticed an improvement and the shifting was easier.
I still can't get reverse if the engine isn't running, but with it running - no problems.
You didn't say if you have an aftermarket shifter - but the Hurst and the B&M make a huge difference in the throws and make for a very "positive" action.

Mine occassionally won't go into either reverse or first also. Always seems to happen on a hill too, so I look like a jerk rolling in the wrong direction. Just go through the H pattern, back through neutral and reselect your gear.
When each of my C5s was new, I sometimes had the same problem. However, after they got broken in, it stopped. Usually about 2-3000 miles. Because yours is well past the break-in period, I'd suspect either worn syncros or a mis-adjusted shift mechanism. Because the transmission is in the rear, the action will never be as direct as with earlier 'Vettes.
