Default Removing Body Side Molding??

I prefer the cleaner look of a C5 without body side molding. My 98 pewter coupe came from the factory with it installed. Anyone have any tips on removing the molding without damage to the car? Also I am concerned about paint fade being obvious even though the car has been garaged except when in use.

Thanks

Never did it but I was always told that fishing line from the back works. Between the car and molding.

I removed mine last week and I like the look much better. I used 50# monofilament fishing line and "sawed" up and down behind the molding. It took about five minutes to get the molding off and about 45 minutes to remove the double sided tape that holds the molding on. I used 3M adhesive remover to soften the tape up and the my thumbs to "rub" the tape into a ball and remove it. My car is a 2000 navy blue and I have no color difference from fade. Go for it. It was much easier than I thought it would be.

I took mine off when the car was 6 months old, i used a hair dryer to warm up the moldings first and the used fishing line in a sawing motion to get them loose, when you have enough of the molding loose to grab ahold of it do that and continue heating the rest of the molding until you are able to pull it off. The part that made me the most nervous was the short fender moldings, that area of the fender seemed to be quite flexible. You may have a little rubber like glue to rub off too after the moldings are off. I just used my fingers for that. On my car there are no signs that it ever have moldings. Good luck and take your time.
