Unfortunately, I'm contending with the Florida weather. Up to now, I've had no need for a car cover but now I'm having to re-think that. Anyone have any suggestions for a really high quality cover that offers great protection against the elements?
A good car cover will not scratch or damage your paint provided both the car and the inside of the car cover is clean. The wind won't hurt unless there are dirt particles hard enough to scratch. I know because I have used car covers for a long time. I recommend the C5 car cover from Chevrolet. It's not cheap but it's the best; again I know because I bought a lot of car covers.

What does it cost and you would recommend it over ALL others?
I too am very interested in this thread. Three people, 1 corvette specialist and 2 cover vendors, told me that a cover is not something that I want. All mentioned that chaffing could happen and dirt in the cover could scratch the paint. They cautioned me to only put it on a clean car. I don't have a garage so I thought a cover would help. At least it would block the UV rays. Any more thoughts on covers in gerneral? thanks !
Some here will tell you that Brand A is best and others Brand B when in fact both brands may very well be made of the exact same fabric and sewn by the same manufacturer. Keep this in mind and you may save yourself some money and still get a very high quality cover.
Kimberly-Clark Corporation makes many of the fabrics that are used in today's car covers; i.e., the Block-It fabrics, Evolution, Dustop and Noah. Also, Nextec Applications, Inc. makes the Weathershield fabrics. Here are a few links that may help you in selecting a cover fabric that is right for you and your type use:
CoverCraft is the world's largest manufacturer of custom car covers and IMO, they make excellent covers. In addition to the CoverCraft brand, they also manufacture covers for a number of other companies who in turn sell these covers under their own brand label. A number of the Forum vendors here sell the CoverCraft Brand or covers made by CoverCraft. Here are a few CoverCraft links you might like to check out:
Thanks for the post about cover craft. My question is are outdoor covers more trouble than they are worth or are the a good thing to have. thanks again.
A lot depends on the outdoor environments that you are protecting against. When I occasionally have my car outside over night it would fill up the seams with pine needles and pine seeds keeping water and snow off it can't be bad, but I agree with the comments about windy areas potentially beating the paint too much. So in the end the decision is "kinda depends".
Just received my cover from www.huggercovers.com. Great cover fits like a glove, and if you send them a patch they will stich it in for you.
Good Luck.
I cant believe this is even a debate. If you are leaving it outside regularly COVER IT!!!!!!!!
I have had 3 vettes now and no garage. They all have gotten covered with the NOAH cover. It is the best BY FAR. No wind problems etc. The thing is like a damn pillow for crying out loud.
Obviously you do not wanna cover a dirty car but i cover mine every day. If i get caught in rain. Like i did yesterday then i leave it bare overnight,
Even if you did get a small scratch from a cover WHICH YOU WON'T. I will buff right out wth regular wax. The UV protection alone is worth it.
Trust me buy a NOAH and be done with it. Cover it all the time. My cars all look brand new. If they sat in the sun the would not. Not to metion acid rain etc.
I use NOAH covers to cover my Z16 and my X5 4.4i (no garage at my apt). In the 4 years that I've been using them they haven't damaged the paint on any of the cars I've covered. I think it's unreasonable to only put a cover on a clean car, although I will leave it off if there is EXCESSIVE dirt on the car so that the inside of the cover doesn't grab too much dirt (what's the point of covering a really dirty car anyway unless it's parked under a sap producing tree.
Regardless of what cover you decide to buy, I can highly recommend Cal Car Cover, I've bought 3 covers from them and they will price match if you find the cover at a lower price someplace else. Their customer service has been great for me so far. (replaced a mirror pocket for free and sent me an antenna pocket for free).
