Can anyone compare a 2001 C5 vs a 1995 Gen I Viper I am being led astray just a little bit since i Found a Gen I Viper for $30,000 about as much as I am buying a vette for.
01 vette is perfect all options I want and a little less than 30gs
the 95 viper I haven't seen in person but it does match up with bluebook value and it looks good (on the internet) I don't think I could find a near perfect viper for that little money.
I love the vette and am leaning towards it because its probibly the smarter choice less miles, beter realiablity, etc. But the viper has a couple of good points, more power, more exclusive, etc.
If anyone has some personal experiance with a gen I viper it would be helpful.
You really need to sit in the Viper and drive it. I found it very difficult to get in and out of. Is this going to be a daily driver or fun car? As hot as the Viper is, I personally could not live with it on a daily basis. The Vette on the other hand is a luxury sports car with great comfort and performance. I aslo think the price on the vette is a little steep. I paid 36K for an 03Coupe MN6 with HUD, memory pkg. etc.

The ergonomics of the Vette will be much better, the ride better, the fuel economy better, etc. The Viper is a much more limited production car, but for all around pleasure, get the Vette.

I've owned a '95 Viper and four Corvette's ('96, '97, '02Z06 and '04Z06) and all four Corvette's are MUCH more enjoyable to drive. The Viper is without a doubt more aggressive looking and will turn heads better than any Corvette, but honestly who cares about that? I didn't. The Viper is extremely hot inside, the side curtains are horrible to see out of, and the cloth top leaks so you can not drive them in the rain. My Viper had 28,000 miles and it leaked oil. All Gen 1 Vipers need to have the head gaskets replaced. It's not a question of if, but when they will fail. And from what I have read, the repair bill is pretty hefty. The Gen 1 hoods seem to have a problem with cracking. After two weeks of owning mine, I had 2, 4" cracks above the passenger side headlight. I guess you could always go buy a Gen 2 hood to avoid that problem, but they do cost anywhere from $12,000 to $16,000 depending where you buy it. All that and I usually got 8 miles per gallon driving around town and on the highway. Does the '95 you're looking at have air conditioning? Even if it does, the cabin is going to be hot. But hey, they do look good and you won't see another Viper as often as you'll see another Corvette. Persoanlly, I would never recommend a Gen 1 Viper to anyone over a Corvette. It reminded me too much of a kit car. Good luck with your decision.

I have both a 04 vert and a 94 RT/10. They are very different animals. The vert is my every day driver and my choice for long drives. The Viper is alot of fun but you really cant leave it anywhere unless you put on an aftermarket hard top and door poppers. The Viper also gets kicked off the dragstip, Its times are too low for an open cockpit car and it does not meet NHRA safety standards.
some of these posts make good sense.
IMHO:
#1 I paid 30k for a 2000 (see showin' off the ride) post
#2 Everyone's got a Vette, not many have a Viper
#3 the Vette is a much better car to own and drive by far
I had a visitor at the house a few weeks ago and he had both and he said he would own a Vette again but not a Viper. I say go for the Vette. Just make sur that you get the absolute best that you can for the price.
I had a 95rt/10 and have had several C5's...My last C5 purchase was a 98vert at 34k (this may), and I could have bought a Viper for the same $$...
The C5 I bought has 500rwhp, which will leave any viper sitting in the dust. And you can lock the doors
The viper is a great "fun" car, but not really suited to a daily routine. The early ones have zip in (or plexiglass slide) windows...and no exterior door handles (which means that you have to reach in through the unlocked window to open your door. While in stock form, they have more power and more "head-turns", I still will choose the vette...it's just a better car.
