Default What Gear Do I Use?

Now that I have a mag on my 01 vert with a4,I want the trans to last as long as possible.Question is,if I am rolong down the road at about 50-60 and decide to kick into it,should I downshift into 3rd from overdrive?Or is it okay just to leave it in overdrive?I put a trans coler on it this wekend for extra security. If I downshift into 3 then kick into it does it kick down into 2nd?What do you think?

Let the computer do your shifting, it knows best IMHO.

I don't let the computer down-shift at that speed when I mash the gas pedal. I found out the hard way. When I did it the trans kicked down to 2nd and spun the wheels and kicked out the rear-end wildly( I had the trax control off). I can run upwards of 80 mph in 2nd gear and I'll down shift and gas it at the proper time so that I don't lose control. But hang on. we're talking passing power like no other. Once you get up to 75-80mph then put into 3rd and leave it there until your done accelerating. The computer up shifts great but down shifting with the blower scrares the crud out me.

Unless I missed something in the original post I dont believe he has a blower on his car, your circumstances are different.

I do have a blower.I was wondering more about those time when I am on the highway and want to get away from somebody.Do I downshift manually first into 3rd out of overdrive then nail it or just leave it in overdrive and nail it?Does it put me in a better passing gear by putting it into 3rd.Is it better on the trans?Does it pull harder?Let just say,if someone was trying me would I be better off dropping it down in 3rd then stomping on the gas?

Let the computer select the gear.

The throttle is not a toggle switch, use a little judgement as to how much and how fast you apply it.

Cheers!

You are making a simple thing complicated.

As I said. If you nail the gas, it will kick down to 2nd and then you'll activate the trax- control and slow down a bit or lose the rear end. That is the problem with A4s and blowers. But the way you phrased the question. Yes, drop it into 3rd and gas it. That way you control the gear change and throttle response.
