[Z06] Stereo options
Does the search function work on the site?
OK, coming from a car that has a 6-disc in dash I don't think I can deal with a single disc. Yes, I daily drive the car... So I have found many stereos that can fill the void. I have found that most aftermarket stereo co. have stopped making the multi-disc indash units. Too bad but moving on.. So it looks like I am going to go with an Alpine unit with thier AI tech. They will have a controller out this month that will allow the head unit to control a iPod. I was thinking iPod due to the lack of CD storage in the Z06.
There are many other stereo's out there that you can hook up the iPod too but you have to access the iPod to switch songs and navigate what you want to play.
I was looking into just adding a Changer, I am guessing that I can just get the standard C5 changer and connect it. They seem to have the same head unit. Am I correct in saying this? I figured the cost will be about $400+ plus whatever my time is worth to install all of it..
What is everyone else doing for aftermarket stereo's?
Eric
Ive got an Alpine Head, CDT front components, JL 10" sub and a Phoenix Gold 600.4 amp. It hits VERY nice.
The stock BLOSE system sucks IMHO.
You should head over to the Audio portion of this forum for more info/ideas.
I know I get tired of my own CD's after a short time, so to me it doesnt matter that I dont have the 6 or 12 disc changer. It would also be a bit of a pain to constantly open the trunk to swap out CD's all the time.
Another thought to consider is one of the satellite receiver systems which are becoming very popular. I am planning on adding a Roady2 which uses XM service for $10 a month and you can get the home kit free, so it can be used anywhere. You get the same stations no matter where you are in the country as well and about 60 Commercial Free music channels. If you search through the forum, you will also find some threads regarding sattelite radio systems and you can use a direct hookup to the stock radio's Ext Input with the right adapter cables (also mentioned in some of the threads).
Good luck on your choice.
the stock setup in my z06 is the worst sounding stock speaker system i have EVER heard, in ANY car. it's terrible! i have an infinity i30 with a bose system as well, and that system sounds really darn good for a car system. but this z06 thing sucks bad. the sound is totally unengaging and sounds totally cheap. and i think it mostly has to do with bad acoustics/placement.
anyway, i think if you're looking for better sound, you should concentrate on placement and speakers. the actual controller isn't nearly as important--mostly just for showing off in most cases.
i have a recording studio--sound's very important to me. please let us know how your project turns out.
