Have not heard about any power top for the vert. There is a conversion kit that adds a hardtop to a vert and modifies the rear compartment area. The conversion is approximately $10.5K.
Is there an aftermarket powertop kit for the c5 (one that's proven and reliable)?
None that I'm aware of for the soft top. But, the soft top is so quick and easy to put up and take down that IMO one really isn't needed. Also, this way you don't have the added weight of the motor and lowering mechanism and just one less thing to break. Good luck finding the right new ride!
I understand the point that you all are making, in that the power top is a largely (actually it's a completely) cosmetic feature. It's more of a "i just want one just to have one" kinda thing than any actual need of any sort (or even a specific desire..). Thanks for your your help though - hopefully I'll find one with reasonable weight/price/warranty.
Do a search we talked about power tops for C5 verts in the past somewhere. In So Cal there is a company that has power tops for C5s *** coach works*** i just can't remember the name but there are others as well.
Welcome back and THANK YOU!
Good luck on your search for the perfecty ride. I have an 01 torch red vert. Most of the time the tops down anyway here in sunny Calli
I'm a newb here and I'm thinking about using some of my war money to get a c5 vert.
I think most missed one thing here.... "your war money". My son spent his on a new Chev Colorado. I for one would like to say thanks!
By your statement I assume you are alot younger than most here and probably a whole lot more fit than most of us. Believe me the top is not a problem to put down. I can do it quicker than a guy that works for me that owns an SLK. The other thing is 90% of people have no idea that our top is not power. I regularly get "you have to put the top down manually?".
^Thank you for your appreciation. And yes, I am rather young, but I just fell in love with the c5 and now I have the chance to buy one.
The c6, based on what I've read, is an awesome car and an improvement in many ways over the c5, however it has failed to captivate me the way the c5 has. Maybe if I see them in person I'll change my mind. I'm still going to wait a year or so before I get my Vette, so who knows.
Plus the c5 is cheaper.
I'll search the forums again, and try to find that SoCal company and see what they have to offer.
Easy, and add to that that even for an average guy like me (5'10") I don't get out of the car to lower/raise it.. just reach back and badda boom, takes about 10s *grins*
