Default Dead window...

My driver side window stopped working again for the second time. The first time
was about a year ago... The first time around, two days before I was going to take
it to the dealer to have it looked at, it suddenly started to work again... for a whole
year until today! I'm still under warranty, but having read dealership horror stories
here on the forum for the past 2 years I don't feel like taking the car there if I can
avoid it. So, I'm gonna wait until next week before I schedule an appointment with
the dealers (hopefully, the problem will go away before then). In the meantime, is
there anything I can do to fix this myself? I already know about the holding the button
down while slamming the door etc., tricks. Has anyone on the forum fixed this problem
themselves? I'd really appreciate any advice/help/etc...

thanks--

I had the same problem with my 97. It started one week, I did the hold button and strategically pound on the door panel deal and it worked. That worked for a week or two, then it stopped for at least 6 months. I was just like you, getting ready to take it in and it started working. It worked like that for over a year, then as soon as I put it for sale in the used section on the forum it started acting up. I took it in to get fixed and it was the door actuator motor. From what I hear the relays begin to stick after a while. Mine wasn't under warranty so it cost me about $125 (got a used one), but if yours is under warranty, take it in. Find a good dealer and they should be able to hook you up no problem.

There is a TSB on this problem, I had my dealership take care of this under warranty.

Since you have a warranty, I would say use it. Find a good dealer that has a competent service department (yes, they are out there) and let them take care of the problem. Good luck getting the car fixed.

Anyone know where these good dealers are in the bay area (Cali)? Preferably
in the San Jose to Menlo Park area... I bought the car at Andersen's in Menlo
Park, but I have mixed feelings about their service folks. Also, is this the kind
of repair that takes a while or can I wait while they fix it so I can keep an eye
on 'em? There's one other thing I'd like fixed while I'm at the dealers... stuck
passenger side door lock.

Thanks for the replies...

The thing you don't want to do is let the problem linger, because before you know it, you'll be out of warranty and SOL. If the window "fixed itself", more times than not the problem is going to return.

The window is working again... I don't think the dealer will do anything for me
(specially warranty work) if the problem isn't there. I'm gonna wait to see if the
problem comes back then take it to the dealer.

thanks...
