I am looking to replace my front and back rotors. The current rotors are drilled and slotted, but show a lot of rust, especially in the holes and slots. Normal brake use does not clean-up the rotors well. Is there a particular type of rotor that does not rust? Do all drilled and slotted rotors rust? If I have to live with the rust, how do you clean the rotors?

If you search the forum I have seen some threads about sanding the rotors and then using a high temp black paint that prohibits rust. Like the stuff they paint BBQ's with. Good luck.

All rotors will rust in the pad contact area. The first few stops will clean that rust. Drilled and slotted rotors have areas the pads don't contact so the rust stays.

I bought the drilled and slotted rotors from Sportbrakes.com a couple months ago. They are zinc washed to prevent rust. I pulled my wheels off the front last night to paint my calipers, and the rotors still look nice and clean, good as new (well, except for the area the pads have worn)!
you can get 4 drilled and slotted and zinc coated rotors for 249 dollars plus 30 dollars shipping from sportbrakes.com
The zinc coating will prevent rust.
here is a tip even with zinc washed rotors.
Buy VHT silver high temp paint. Use a Qtip and paint the holes and slots...it will blend in and look great all the time
If the holes and slots are rusting they were zinc washed before they were machined - not a very good practice!
I still have stock rotor on mine but when I changed brake pads I couldn't stand the rust on the center and edges. I pulled all four rotors off and took them to a local plating company. They cleaned and 'Bright Cadnium' plated all four rotors for $50 in a couple days. End of the rust story!
