The 99 C5 I bought doesn't have the active handling option. Is it someting I will miss?..I don't plan on driving the car in rain or snow. It seems like it's just one more electronic component that could go wrong. What are your thoughts?
Never thought of it until I had a close call on a wet etrance ramp. The rain had just started, and it being the first significant rain in a while, there was a lot of oil and grease which made it very slick. Accelerating normally the rear end started to slip sideways but the active handling kicked in. So I like it. Just another safety feature to me.
Surely this is okay Janie!!

Since your are saying you don't have AH just be careful. There are quite a few posts in the past where the person turn off the AH and forgot about and wrecked there car. I guess when you do have AH it kinda gives you a false sense of security on what the car can do. Plus I guess if you have never had AH you would probably be a little more cautiuos than a person that does have the AH.
I like it. I turn it off sometimes to get some more slide in the turns and to let the tires roar, but for the most it is always on.
I think it is a good safety feature to have (In my BMW it has saved me a few times), but common sense is always the best way to be safe. I guess it is best for those "oops" moments when you think your driving ability is much better - oh it also is nice when the roads are wet...

I live in So Cal, so no need for it yet, but hopefully it kicks in and takes care of business when I need it to. But I will be driving my Infiniti on rainy days since my little grey corvette shouldnt be in the rain unless I get caught out some where.
Just know you should take it easy on rainy, slick areas.
I love it. Even with no rain here, the streets are very slick. If I hurry, I can easily break it loose at any time. More than once, active handling has reacted more quickly than my (admittedly rusty) racers instincts..

I had it on my '99, but did not get it on my '00. Of all the options I could have gotten, I wish this would have been one of them. Doesn't necessarily take rain or snow for it to kick in - could just be sand or gravel on the road.
I like it and I turn it off very rarely, but it can have negative driving effects when you really don't want them. Here is my example:
Two lane 50 mph street between the metropolitan area and a bunch of bedroom communites. My friend has a farm there and so I was out buying corn on the cob. To get home I need to make a left onto the 2 lane road. It's 5:00pm and the rest of the world is going home too. A small break in the traffic allows time for me to jump in there and go. I try and go but the rear wheels are still in the dirt that is the shoulder of the road, tires spin, traction control engages, and the Corvette creeps out into traffic and won't go for a second or two until the active handling clears. So when seconds count beware of the systems limitations. Another poster is correct in saying the traction control is the function here, not active handling as I had originally stated. This error may be because the control button for the traction control is labled active handling. Regardless 'traction control' is correct.

Reason: Correct post from calling traction control, active handling.
You're right in that it's probably something that can go wrong - but you only need it once for it to 'pay for itself'...
I have a '04 with this feature and have yet to use it (an hope I never have to) but - it's there (like anti-brakes) if I do need it...
Had a change to test drive an M5 (a year ago) at the BMW test track in SC and saw (first hand) what AH can do.. That impressed the s*&^ out of me. Never thought I'd be able to have it on a car, thought.
Was delighted when I learned it was std on the vettes..
