I installed a set of Stingers with stock exhaust system and got the popping sound. I then add a set of LG long tube headers, high flow cats and X pipe and I still get the popping sound.
I can increase the popping sound by reaching higher rpm and then letting off of the throttle in stead of shifting to the next gear and then down shifting as I slow down.
I really like the popping sound as well as the entire sound of the exhaust system.
I have just the Borla, and no other exhaust mods. I get a little popping, and can make it worse by getting on it, and then short shifting. Not sure why.
I like the poping but it only happens when letting off the gas in 3rd or 4th at about 3-5k.
I like the popping noise BTW, makes the vette sound like a race car.
Yes, some like, some don't. I think you need headers or an X pipe to get rid of it.
To further complicate the concern (although I love the popping), a GM certified tech (whatever that's worth) indicated to me that at higher RPMs the popping damages exhaust valves. While that may be true (expecially over the long run), I doubt there is any quantified measurement of just how much damage is actually done by the detonation. I further question whether the popping is actually new with the cat-backs, or just more apparent (thus the stock exhaust would be just as "damaging."
