I don't plan on doing ANYTHING to this car that adversely affects its incredible drivability, or reduces its originality. But I'm considering pulleys since they have so many positive - more mpg, less wear on alternator and water pump etc. I had these on my ford muffstain years ago and it was a very positive modification all around ,and the motor was noticably more "zippy" afterward.
But I've noticed the car gets around 215 degrees when idling for a while in the summer, and I'm concerned with possible overheating. ANy problems with this from anyone that has them? Also is 215-220 unusually high in the summer on these cars? Thanks!
I'm not going to add anything to my 99 since it has all the stuff monitored by the computer, but I do have them on my 75 & don't even notice a difference in temp or hp. It also has a cam, intake, holley carb, accel ignition.
I have that install on my 2000 coupe and didn't notice any increase in temp. Before I had my elec water pump installed I regularly had temps of 200 and above while sitting in traffic in the summer and on one occasion in Phoenix my temp was up to 235.
My 03 MN6 Coupe regularly runs between 205 - 225 degrees F. I got a DIC warning recently because it hit 264F. Since coolant boils at 265F, I shut it down, then got it to the Dealer ASAP. They could find nothing wrong, which doesn't necessarily mean anything in view of the high degree of incompetence out there. I continue to monitor temps and no further overheating, but these engines do run hot by design. Can't help you about the pulleys, but I'm considering a lower temp thermostat and an LS1 edit to lower the fan speed settings. Presently, the fans are set to come on at 185F w/AC running, 225F low speed fan, and 235F high speed fan. So all those temps are usual.
