In another thread there is discussion regarding how the MPG indication is off after any significant mods are done to the car (engine: such as s/c, cam, heads, headers, etc.). The fuel level indication is a resistive measurement according to the factory service manual and thus one could correct the MPG error by simply adding a certain size resistor to the circuit to create an offset from the factory fuel level reading. Has anyone attempted this?
I'm just guessing, but I don't think the DIC MPG reading works off the fuel level guage. My guess would be that it somehow works by measuring fuel flow and vehicle speed.

With all the electronics on this car, I would hope that it would offer a more precise measurement than off the fuel guage.
Now that I think about it, you are quite right. I was thinking about the readout that tells you how many miles you can travel (and the fact that it increases when the tank is filled) stuck in my mind and caused my conclusion to be off kilter.
I recall years ago mileage displays were commonly driven by manifold vacuum (I don't know what algorythm they used with that data point). The amount of fuel in the tank has no bearing on mileage.
