I'm looking for a new 04 coupe. I found one on the GM buy power in Hawthorne Ca. Thats about 4 hrs. from me. The salesman said it had a "Chrome package" added to it. To the tune of $2900.00 He said it had chrome (did he mean polished aluminum?) door sills. chrome exhaust pipes and a plate between and some kind of chrome on the rear of the car around the tailights. Has anyone seen this befor and know where they might have bought it? I'm sure at $2900.00 they are making a hugh markup on the stuff. I dont know how much to discount this stuff. (trying to figure out what a good discount would be)The factory MSRP is $47,750 then the $2900.00 was added, pushing it over $50,000.00 Thanks for your help! This Forum is great! I have learned so much! Ray
That is a huge mark up, as a rule of thumb I go by, when the dealer adds a non-factory package I figure they double the price they pay. BTW there are a lot of dealers offering huge discounts on the left over C5s. You may want to check out the C5 for sale section.
All those items are simple bolt ons you can buy from Mid America or Ecklers for far less then $2900. Tell them to take it all off and deduct the $2900. Their $47,750 is still way too high. Dealers are trying to dump their 04's right now and letting them go for low 40's if not lower. Dont be afraid to buy out of state, I did and saved probably $15,000 (local dealer markup was outrageous on the Z06).

No doubt about the pricing. Once dealer around here installed Corsa exhuast and had it listed on the addendum sticker for $1,600. Double the retail price.
BTW, there is no chrome package offered by Chevy. This is all dealer stuff. If you don't like it or don't want it, have the dealer remove it.

These are all add-on's although when you add it all up, it potentially could be a couple thousand dollars. An exhaust plate can be anywhere from about $40 to $375 for billet aluminum. The sill plates are about $100 for the pair - an aftermarket exhaust system retails for anywhere from about $700 - $1100. There are billet accessories available for around license plate, taillights side marker lights, etc. That stuff is pretty expensive when you add it up.
There are no factory chrome wheels available - but the polished alumium is about $1300.
If the car has aftermarket chrome wheels - they could range anywhere from about $100 per wheel to almost $1000 per wheel.
Hope that clears it up a little - bottom line you need to get some more details! Personally, I'd look for a car without all the extra stuff and then add only what you want!
It soes sound like the items are some stuff the dealer bought aftermarket and addes to the car. You have seen them do it befor. Add things and atleast double what they pay for it. I was at a local Honda dealer with a friend recently. They had added wheel locks to most of the Accords and added $119.00 to the sticker! It gave me a good laugh! I jus wonder what these parts are, thats all. I might just have to drive down to LA and look i guess. Thanks for all your help guys.
Kerbeck in atlantic city was taking 13,000 of MSRP on all 04's
the add-ons here that you mention: chrome door sills, exhaust plate chrome tips and chrome tail light lovers are worth at the very most 500 dollars.. Ive also notice areound here that the C6's are 50,000 but dealers are adding 4500 to that price because of market demand. WE saw this when they introduced the C5... because the build # for MN6's was low dealers were tacking on 4 grand to any MN6 early on... because of the limited production and the high demand especially on the west coast.
I bough an 04 for $39,000. Here wher I live. I talked to dealer to find out why so much mark down. He told me that for every two C5 sold. They could order a C6. You may probably find one alot less shopping around.
I have looked in calif for a black coupe with auto trans. Only 2 showed up in my search. The one in so cal with added chrome and a big add on to the price and one in my town (Fresno ca.) that the dealer said he bought from another dealer at "Invoice" and will only come about $4000.00 off the MSRP price of $49,120.00 then the $3000.00 rebate taken off also. I did talk to a dealer in Texas that was discounting about the same and then told me he contacted the calif. DMV and was told he could not sell a car to someone in Calif. I thought the Forum dealer sold to calif. all the time. I'm about to give up on buying a C4
