I have had my eye on a Supercharged ZO6 for a couple months now. I have been playing games iwth the dealer knowing that not many folks are going ot to be interested in a car like that. Last week I called him and asked him to contact the rpevious owner so i can get the psecs on the car and see who biult it. He got the info for me and i was satisfied. I told him i am workin on a deal for another car ( daily driver) and i would call him in a few days. So The deal on my jeep went through and i gave the sales guy a call this morning and we finalized the details of the deal on the phone. He asked me to come in after 3pm to sign the papers. I arrived at around 4pm/ There were all happy to see me. We sat down and we finalized the paper and were waiting for the approval from the bank to return. I asked to see the car again whlile were waiting.
He said no prob. We walked around on the lot for abou 20 minutes and he could not find the car. He said it must be in the wharehouse still ( this is where i orginally saw it first) so we jumped in one of the other cars and drove to the wharehouse. No Car.
At this point im wondering what the hell is going on. Then they told me one of the sales guys must have taken it out last night.
I sat around for another hour while 3 or 4 of the were frantically calling around trying to find the car when finally some one calls back.
The salesmen turns to me and says, Im sorry but the car was sold 4 days ago
and they sold it less than i was going to buy
Sorry to hear that, but you said it yourself...you were playing games with the dealer. This tactic doesn't always work. A car on a dealer lot is always for sale until someone actually signs on the dotted line and forks over the cash.
When I bought my car, the salesguy informed me he had one other person that looked at it and was seriously considering it....I thought, yeah, right...what dealership HASN'T fed me that line before. I ended up buying the car on the spot, and while I was sitting at the desk completing the paperwork, the other guy that was interested called to tell them he'd be in later that day with a check to buy it, but unfortunately, it was already a done deal and it was my car. Had I not heard the conversation take place right in front of me, I still wouldn't have believed it.
The fact that your salesguy didn't know it was previously sold and didn't tell you that right away is incompetant bs though, no question about that.
Unless you have a deposit dn these guys don't give two hoots about a pending deal. I learned the same less a few yrs back, thought I had a car but it was sold from underneath me.
I'd be upset over what happend to you also, not because they sold the car, but because they sold it and had you waiting there without you knowing the car was sold. I do hope you find
a car you really like.

Things do happen for a reason....
Last summer I made a deal on a black 99 coupe & was going to pick it up at 5:00 that afternoon, after the dealer took care of a couple minor things. At 3:00 pm the sales guy called to say that they had researched the service history on the car (a recent trade-in) & had decided that they didn't want to sell me the car.He said they were going to dump it at an auction. I still think they got a better offer, or another guy sold it.
Either way, a few days later I found a pewter 99 coupe, with a few mods, that was a much better car, with lower mileage. I wouldn't trade it for two of the black ones.
Hang in there, you will find a better deal.

Something very similiar happened to me. I had my eye on a red FRC that had been sitting on the dealers lot for over a month. I finally got around to getting the saleperson to agree on a price over the phone and I said I would stop over in the next hour seeing I was at work at the time. The saleperson said something to the effect that somebody was out looking at the car right now, would I like to put a credit card deposit on the car? I still wanted to test drive the car 1 more time and give it another look over so I said no thinking the saleperson was BS'ing me to lock me into buying the car. Well, I show up an hour later and sure enough that person is seated at another salemans desk finalizing the sale on the car. Anyway, live and learn I guess. Sometimes salesmen aren't lying, although that's probably few and far between.
Like others, I soon found a better deal on a car that was a color I liked more (black) at a better price, etc. Be patient, there are a lot of nice Vettes for sale out there.
I learned along time ago that when I find something that I want at the right price, I move on it. It's a Murphy's Law kinda thing that always seems to happen whenever I procrastinate. I've had it happen enough times to know that I have to finalize things as soon as I've made my decision.

If your really that interested, slap a down payment on there, if not, you'll find a better one some where else. Keep on looking!
