Just a little more clarification. Does it include the catalytic converters? For example, if someone does a cat-back replacement, are they also replacing the catalytic converters?

No. A typical, and nice exhaust IMO, would be a Borla. It "wraps" over the rear just like the original and connects to the original system behind the cats.

On C5's there are bolted flanges in the exhaust pipes behind the cats, but in front of the rear axle. If anyone talks about a 'cat back' system for a C5, they are talking about from those flanges back. No cutting/welding at all is required for a cat back muffler replacement. HTH
it is a misnomer. The cats (catalytic converters) are many feet in front of the flanges where the after market "cat backs" attach. It is just a short cut way of say mufflers from the axle back. It is not from the cats back as that would involve some length of exhaust piping from the cats. My guess would be several feet (4).
