Default How do I mount my......

Tire pressure sensors???

I purchased a set of 19/20 wheels from Bob @ House of Wheels a couple of weeks ago and their just sitting in my spare room with my new tires.

The problem is, is I dont have a clue how to mount the sensors on the wheels. I understand there is some sort of band you can use but the bands I saw were 75 bucks!!! There is no possible way 4 oversize .79 hose clamps cost 75 bucks. What else can I use? Or where else can I find them cheaper?????

Thanks, Jeff

When I put on my new wheels, they just took them out of the old ones and inserted them in the new ones. No problem.

Of course, the wheels have to be compatible with wheel sensors. Since you're using non-stock sizes, there's a very good chance your wheels won't accept sensors. I'd drop Bob a note and ask.

Oh, btw, I have no idea what sort of $75 "band" you're talking about. Maybe someone else can answer that one.

The 2004 service manual just describes mounting the sensors with the nut on the valve stem. There is no mention of any bands or are any shown in the text or drawings. Keep in mind that this is a 2004 I am referring to, may be different for other C5 years.

lemas...that refers to factory wheels.

Jeff...if your wheels are not TPS friendly then yes you need to mount the sensors to the wheels. I can tell you this from expeirence. DO NOT TRY TO GO CHEAP OR HALF A$$ ON THIS. You will have nothing but headaches and cost you more money than you saved. I have HRE 18/19...when I bought them the place that sold to me put my sensors on with dbl sided tape. Two sensors came off within a day. So I called HRE they told me about the straps. We strapped the sensors and dbl sided tape. Worked for a bit till they all started coming off one at a time. Next I epoxied the sensors to the wheels. That seems to be working except one still came off. I have been dealing with this for at least 6 months. I have had my tires mounted and dismounted at least 5 times. So if you want to go throw this kind of stuff hunt down a very cheap method of doing it. I have a new set of 19/20's those are getting done correctly. HRE makes an aluminum cup that holds the sensor to the wheel and the band attaches to it. Those will be on my new wheels and hopefully no more headaches.

Thanks for the info!! I would rather spend the cash and do it right the first time then have to bother with it over and over again.
I will call HRE tomorrow and see if these sensor cups are able to be used on other wheels.
If that doesnt work I'll probably not use them at all.
