Default Rotors

Just a few days ago someone posted a question about rotors and you guys (some of you guys) mentioned a good set of rotors and included a link in your post. I think they were motorsports.com or something. But they were a complete set of drilled and slotted rotors for under 300 bucks. Any help would be great.

It might have been www.sportbrakes.com. We bought drilled and slotted rotors for both of our Corvettes and love them!! And they were $249 for a set of 4 plus $30 shipping. Can't beat that!!

Their web site isn't current. Give them a call (number is on the site). They're great to deal with.

I got mine from rockauto.com for $216 shipped.

They are drilled and slotted but aren't zinc plated. However, I got mine powder coated instead.

The rotors from SportBrakes.com are zinc coated...makes a huge difference in rust prevention!

That is why I typed "They are drilled and slotted but aren't zinc plated. However, I got mine powder coated instead."

That zinc plating is going to wear off where the pads contact eventually and the bare rotor will rust. The nice part about zinc plated rotors is the zinc plating will prevent the rotor's hat from rusting but so will powder-coating.

But the powder coated ones will rust in the pad contact area, also, unless you've got some secret method to prevent it.

And then you drive around the block once and it's gone.

Ok, LAST TIME.

BOTH THE ZINC COATED AND THE POWDER COATED ROTORS WILL RUST IN THE CONTACT AREAS.

My point is that the zinc coating is only really good for the hat and edge.

So instead of getting zinc coated you can go with powder coated like I did and I paid $216 shipped for rotors + extra for the powder coating.

Is powder coating rotors very expensive?

Zinc plated rotors are zinc plated in all the areas not just the hats... the slots are zinc plated and so are the holes... and so are the cooling vents inside and out.. a powder coated hat will not rust but the slots and holes and edges of non- zinc plated rotors will . and all the driving around in thw world won't remove rust from your slots , holes and cooling vents..

Hence the quote BOTH THE ZINC COATED AND THE POWDER COATED ROTORS WILL RUST IN THE CONTACT AREAS.

Really?

I thought I had special form fitting pads that actually fit inside the slots and holes.

Look, if anyone wants zinc-plated rotors, then get them.

I'm only saying there is an alternative.

To save money, get in touch with Mark Dawson, 30yeardream, and have the rotors shipped to him if you want him to do the powder coating.

Here are the ones he did for me.

SLASH,

Thanks, those rotors look awesome! I will be deployed for six months, but I will look you up soon to get this done! Awesome!

Do you have any pics of your ride?

Here are a few with the rims & rotors.

Some people commented that I need a little more contrast with the wheels so I'm planning on getting white powder coated lug nuts to match the top.

Do that is sick! I love the look, and I honestly don't believe you need to add white lug nuts. It looks great!

Will the guy you know be able to match the powder coat of the VHT racing red that I have on my black C5?

Here is a pic of the color.

Get in touch with Mark Dawson, 30yeardream, on the board.

I am sure he can match the color you are looking for.
