if the c6 z06 costs $60k+ in a couple of years, when even the pristine '04 c5 z06's will be floating around for probably the low $30k area, that means you'd have to pony up a $30k hit (after tax, etc) to trade up. good lord! we all know what we could do for $30k to the c5! no stock c6 z06 would even come close in performance! i'm envisioning twin turbo, or? ohhh the myriad possibilities...

It`s either pay the 60g`s for the current model ( assuming you want a Z06 ) or purchase a used one and save any difference plus sales tax on savings. I posted this theory long ago on this website. The previous Z06 will depreciate at a slower rate than a stock C5 ( on a ratio basis) Check out the old post. It had alot of interesting input.

I`ve said this before. For the money this is one hell of a car, and i have no regrets !

I'm a PERFORMANCE guy first, a gadget guy second. So spending $15K to $17K more for a car with less performance just didn't make sense - to me.

Now when the new Z hits the streets that's when I move to the new Z. For me performance is what matters most not excuses.

The difference in peformance and price sure make it easy not to go for the C6....what will you do when the new C6 z comes out with an estimated price of $55k PLUS?

Default ZO6 vs C6

I also agree with most on this issue that the new C6 isn't worth the extra money when compared to the C5 ZO6. Besides performance issues, I personally don't like the body style as much (it looks chopped off from the side) I would never trade my 04 ZO6 for this vehicle. I too will look at the new C6ZO6 and evaluate (like others here) the price performance ratio compared to the current C5ZO6. My current ZO6 is more than I could hope for at the present time. Exhilarating performance, unbelievable handling and that.....Ohhhhh that rumble!!!! And to tell you the truth...I really don't care about the resale value at the present time...This will take care of itself when the C6ZO6 arrives and if it doesn't...so be it. I like others here still will have a Vette with unbelievable performance per dollar ratio. Just my .02.

My first Corvette was a Nasau Blue 1969 427 Tri-Power. Great style and a real rush to drive for short runs BUT 4-6 mpg, 104 octane booster needed to make it run on pump gas, no A/C or PS put it in the category of a Beast as a daily driver. Prior to the 2004 CE Z06 recently purchased I owned a Black Rose 1994 Coupe. In between the 69 & the 94 there were 7 other corvettes that served as daily drivers over a 12 year period.
With only 1100 miles on the Z06 I'm not yet qualified to make specific comparisons other than to say it makes power in the same scarry & fun way the big block did in a far more refined automobile.
Very glad I bought this car.
Don't care about the new one.

For me and my Z06, the resale price has taken a drop. However, the value of my Corvette is in the driving, the associations with other Corvette owners, and in having one of my dreams come true. The value is still there, every time I get behind the wheel.

In the end, there can be only one... and the one is Corvette.

The real problem with prices is that GM keep pumping out new vettes this summer. There are dealers with a large number of them still brand new. They don't need/want trade-ins when they have new ones at a serious discount.

This will also hurt GM in the end because lowering trade in prices hurts their new car sales. I am not sure what they were thinking.

Yea, I was holding out for the c6 Z06, but seen a red 02 at the dealer that was traded in on a 04 CE Z06. The owner of the dealer ship was driving it home the day I saw it and he said I could have it for $37,500 and it had only 9800 miles on it. Then I get a phone call from the sells man that they just took a 2400 mile blk 02 Z06 in trade on a C6 and did I want it,same price, I said yes. Well, I made deal on red Z and got them to give it to me for $34,000, what a deal, how could I pass it up. Went with red because I have a blk c5 and it is a pain to keep looking nice. I really don't think the prices will remain low or in fact go any much lower, it's just an over stock problem with the c5 at the dealers and they are just trying to get them sold before the truck comes with a load of c6's. This dealer has already sold and delivered 12+ c6's. I don't see myself giving up the 02 anytime soon, what a refined beast.

I just wanted to say how GLAD I am to see the new C6 prices on Ebay. The But It Now prices are mostly in the $54k-$60k range. After seeing an '04 Z06 with 1100 miles for sale for only $38k (private owner on the Forum), I about puked. We're talking about a difference of roughly $20,000 if that owner wanted to sell for a new C6!!!!!!!!!!

As bad as the Corvette resale is, I have to believe these high C6 prices will keep up the used Z06 prices for a while. My worry is the ones who are "dumping" their Z06's for the C6 and killing the resale. Personally I couldn't imagine spending another $20k or so to sell my 2,000 mile Z06 for a new C6.

Anyway, just wanted to chat about it...

I just can't see myself spending $20K for LESS hp and performance-JMHO.

I think if you LIKE the body style of the C6-go for it, anything one REALLY likes is worth every penny

Perhaps I'm living on a mushroom cloud, but I think the 03 Z's will be collectibles someday.

50th anniversay, 405hp, (only 1979 made in red)

At least that's what I keep telling myself...lol

Mine's definitely a keeper, 4012 miles and still stock

Man, that was right on the money. Couldn't have said better, so I won't even try.

I will say this. In this day and age of troubled borders, paying for illegal Aliens healthcare, soft on crimminals and miles of hatred against good solid American ideology, it's refreshing to have the Vette an American car Icon and all the many who pay homage, it's fan base.

Along with a good hamburger, all the trimmings, some fries and a coke, the Vette my friends is one true, I mean true hard core American muscle car with heart that you just can't get in any import.

We perform to the max over in Iraq and around the world for folks who I don't think even get it. Most I assume are jealous of our way of life and opportunity. Enough politics for me, sorry, I'm outta here.

Amen, to our beloved heros and comrads abroad, God bless them and protect them.

As our local Vette nut comrad duly noted in the quote above. "The Legend Lives". It surely does!

I will also wait for the Z06 to come out and see what the price to performance ratio is. Another 75 to 100 hp and in the 55k range and I will seriously think about it. But I would not want the first year models. I would wait for the 2nd year run to allow for some of the problems to be worked out. Also I may wait another year or two after that to pick up a great deal on a used one. I think we have gotten spoiled by the great prices on used Z06's now. It would be hard to justify even paying MSRP on a new C6 Z06 when you can get 03 or 02 z06 at 17K to 24K off MSRP now.

i like the new c6 styling...i still love the styling of my z06. the interior is definately nicer, but the performance on my z06 puts the c6 to shame. i guess it is a win win situation...just have to decide what you want. i will wait for the c6 z06.
