CLB problems on early C5s
I keep seeing people mention problems instaling a CLB on early models C5's - since I have one of them (97 - #1651) I womdered what types of problems people had, and was there a particular brand of CLB that worked better than others? I'd be especially interested in hearing from people who have them installed (and properly working) on early cars....

I have a 97 model and I installed the CLB. Ive never had any problems with the column before I installed it, nor have I had any problems after I installed it. Works like a charm!

When me and a friend was installing my CLB I got a code saying to service column lock. After clearing it I have had no problems whatsover. Go ahead and do it. You should have no problems.

We've got a 98. Didn't have any problems with installation but afterward. The pull key, wait ten seconds started to show up on a regular basis. It happened everytime I started the car. Once I re-started the car it would function fine but after shut off I would always get the message. Ours was built in September of 97. I tried two different CLB's and neither would work without this annoying problem.
