GM -- getting blood from a stone!!!
..... I know....) they fixed it.I called GM - to see if there was a recall on this item, but there has not been one. I asked "Then why so many people are having a problem with this part??", no great answer. I was looking for them to help cover some of the repair cost of the item (Originally got the idea to call GM from RedRider). They would not help me with the costs of the repair because I was told it was a normal wear and tear part, and since I just bought it (July '04) it could have been a result of neglection by the last
owner.
I told them that I have the service records on the vehicle and if they look them up they will see that it had been taken to the dealer to have everything done. (It was originally a lease vehicle when purchased)
The guy told me that if there was a recall in the future I would recieve my money back....better luck seeing a pink elephant.
I asked how do you process a recall and what makes it happen. The call that I made is a start on how they track certain problems -- if enough calls were made then they would consider it.
I see this to be a very common problem with the C5 (no matter what year).
What I am looking for are names and #'s of people to send to GM that have / had this problem. (thanks 03Ragtop for the info..gives me 1)
I want to e-mail the list to them and get the ball rolling as much as possible.
If you are interested please PM me or email me slicksilver@comcast.net
Thanks for letting me

You basically bought a six year-old car with apparently no extended warranty and now have a mechanical problem which is also apparently your first so you want to try to start a recall on an entire product line for your problem?
Anyone who buys any used car assumes the risk unless given a written warranty for a price. It doesn't matter if it is a Corvette or Yugo. It is a USED car and no represented as being new or under a warranty.
I've had a number of the common problems, window not working, both headlight actuators gone, column locks and while I wasn't aware of specific problems at the time of purchase - I did know I was assuming any repair costs as part of the savings for buying a used car.
Sorry, but I don't see this as the manufacturer's problem. You saved money by buying a used car and assumed the risk without an extended warranty.
maybe it is who they buy from, or maybe it is them. I don't know??
Also, if the part was defective - no matter what or when I bought the car (used or new) it should be covered.
I would agree with you if it was only a few people, but it seems like a lot.
The column lock became a recall, only after people spoke up and it became a problem that GM fessed up to.
Also, see previous posts about sensors.

However, with my luck - I wouldn't be surprised if my oil pressure sending sensor/unit went out shortly. But unless there are significant numbers and physical evidence to substantiate defective parts in the 200,000 or so C5s built - I just don't think a recall on either a six year-old car or in my case a five year-old car is realistic. It would also seem that in this amount of time any real defect would have been substantiated long ago.
I think many of us (including myself) expect these cars to have both a certain degree of perfection and that they will last forever. Neither is true. Even if a thousand people make a post here that their oil pressure sensor failed - that's still only a .05% failure rate.
Again, I understand (and can agree with) your frustration and aggravation with commonly failing parts. But I think the reality is we bought used cars and outside extended warranties - we just have to pay to get them fixed.

uhhhhh....
