Is it worth the $1700 dollars for this? just curious...I have a 00 Coupe with 41K miles on it, and maybe they charge more to those without factory warranty left in it.?????

No maybe's about it... your going to pay a premium for an extended warranty out of its original warranty and also an inspection fee to see if they want to even cover it...but if your going to keep it.. you would be crazy not to have a warranty..

I have Warranty Direct ..
Read this: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warranty.htm
I bought Warranty Direct 3 years ago... 7 years 100,000 miles zero deductible bumper to bumper... for 1200 dollars... I paid 200 dollars the first month then 100 dollars a month for the next 10 months... with no interest..
Warranty Direct is one of the oldest extended warranty companies in the country... they were writing extended warranties years before GM and Ford ever got into the extended warranty business.. Their D&B rating is "A" Superior.. which is the highest you can get... To date : I have used them six times.. Water pump, oil sending unit, Door control Module, and Headlight actuator control motor..[alternator, belt tensioner and idler pulley ](this was one claim ), and just this week a new seat adjuster.. they had paid over 3,000 dollars in claims so far , and always with a thank you and, we will be here for you if you need us again... And the Best Part is I do Not have to take it to the dealer...Although many dealers will take this warranty because it actually pays them 40 % more for labor than GM pays them... I don't have to deal with people that know less about a Corvette than I do.... No dealer 18 year old Lot jockeys lighting up my tires... No inept techs working on my car... no threats or hassles from a guy that was working at McDonald the year before.. MY repair guy has been in business 40 years.. can do anything GM can do... he doesn't have any kids working for him... I can watch... My repair shop told me that Warranty Direct is the best warranty company he has ever worked with... he even Now has his personal cars covered by them.. Never a penny out of my pocket... MY guy calls Warranty direct to open a claim... he repairs the car... calls me when it is done.. submits his repair bill Via a fax to Warranty Direct, and he gets paid right on the spot via corporate credit card,,, just as if I gave him my credit card,,,
I still have four years and 50,000 miles left on this warranty... it would be worth 6 to 800 dollars to anyone who would buy my car... if I decided to sell it.. Would I do it again...? in a heart beat !

Here's what I can add to that!
My 02 coupe's 36/36 warranty runs out in about 2 weeks (9/26).
2 weeks ago, I bought a GMPP from Dennis Fichtner (Ken's uncle) at Fichtner Chevrolet.

I shopped around for price comparison first.
Here's what I got
GMPP Major Guard plan
48 months, 32,000 miles, $0 deductible
I got quoted this price from 2 local dealers here in town: $1260.00
This is what I paid for that same covereage from Fichtner: $850.00

Enough said, huh?

All I can say is, check locally before you do anything because the internet is not necessarily the cheapest place. My local dealer sold me the following for $880.

GMPP Major Guard
48/40
0 deductible

Check out either GMPP, Warranty Direct or 1 Source. All are good programs but the cost may vary considerably.

If you read the link in my original post, you will see there is a big difference between a break down warranty, and a wear and tear warranty..
With GMPP you have to have a break down before something can be fixed...
My alternator was starting to sing... I didnt not want to wait until a breakdown, Warranty direct paid for a new alternator before it actually got me stuck somewhere..
Warranty Direct is a wear and tear warranty , which is the best type of warranty you can get.
There is nothing better than a credit card warranty.. The shop, no matter where they are gets paid right on the sport via corporate credit card.
A friend had a silverado with GMPP he had a blown head gasket and some broken head bolts... GMPP paid for the broken head gasket replacement but did not pay for the removal of the broken bolts or their replacemnt.. ( 110 dollars)
I asked Warrnty direct about broken head bolts with a blown head gasket.. and they said... "That's part of the repair isnt it.. of course we would pay for the broken head bolts and their removal.
And to answer someone elses question ... NO I have never received a penny from Warranty direct for trying to tell friends , family and forum members about this wonderful warranty company...

I also have an '02 that goes out of warranty soon - the 24th of this month. I just bought an extended warranty yesterday from Warranty Direct based in large part on feedback from this forum. Aside from the wear and tear aspect I also liked that the time starts when you buy the warranty, not from the in-service date, which is how GMPP works, I believe.

Here's what I got and paid for my '02 coupe with 19K miles on it, using their web page:

Price: $1555.00
SecureCare
6 years/75000 miles
$100 deductible

I would never get anything but a GMPP warranty. It's too hard to get through the paperwork from some of the other non brand warranties. The dealership won't honor it, they want to fight with you over the smallest detail, ect. And as far a GMPP goes, it's not so swell either. The dealship almost always has a way to get around the deductable so you have to pay once or twice. ie: I have a leak in my DD air conditioning and I have a $200 deductable. they fill it with R134 and some dye and told me to drive it around for a week and then bring it back to see where the leak is. Well you know when I get back and they fix the leack I'm not going to be able to deduct the $158.14 freon and dye charge even though it's part of fixing the leak? Chevy Dealerships have a 100 ways of getting around the warranty deductable. It's always been that way.
