Default maintenance

Hi. I was wondering what should my average maintenance costs are for the year and where should I take a C5 to do proper maintenance work? I 'd like to find out about these things before I get my vette. Thanks.

Tough question without more info. I'll assume you're buying a new 'Vette, but you can extrapolate.

For the first 3 years, you'll only need to do regular oil and filter changes along with lube service. Because the car requires synthetic oil, you'll pay in the range of $50 per pop. If you drive 10-12K miles/year, you can probably do this only once a year. Watch the oil life monitor for more info. Of course, you may want to replace wiper blades, etc., each year as well.

Beyond 3 years, you'll need to think about coolant replacement, hoses and belts, etc. Depending on how much you want to do yourself, these can be cheap or (relatively) expensive.

There is no need to worry about a timing belt replacement, nor will a 'tune up' in the classic sense be needed. Spark plugs should last at least 5 years.

Tires and brake pads are wear items, and that will depend upon how you drive.

Overall, the 'Vette is less expensive to maintain than most sports cars. I've owned Porsches (911s) before, and there is no comparison.

Enjoy!!
