Default M6 owners....HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys,

My clutch is engaging a lot higher than normal and is getting worse by the day.....

My 94 LT-1 had the same problem and the master cylinder took a dump on me (was leaking). Cost me a **** load to fix at the stealership.

So, I just took it to City Chevy in Charlotte since I am here on biz for the next couple weeks.....

I explained the situation and told them I think the Master cylinder needs to be flushed and readjust the clutch.....got a call saying the clutch can not be adjusted on my car.....

Question is: Will flushing the master cylinder solve my problem or is a NEW master cylinder inevitable..????

Thanx

-Marko

Wow.....

I just got my car back and not only was my problem not fixed.....but they managed to disconnect my driver side speaker when they adjusted my window (due to the fact that it was hitting the ragtop).

It only cost me $441 for an oil change and for them to flush my master cylinder......

Oh, the invoice said that I approved $500???? They told me it would take a couple hours and called back w/ an estimate of $200 and change...so I threw in a oil change........

Couldn't be more upset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'll jump in.
Don't know anything about possible clutch problems, BUT, that's a WHOLE lot of $$$$$ for some stuff that I'd call "no big deal!"
I know I'd be really to be hit with a bill like that!
Hope you can find some help!

I just needed to vent.....I am just gonna drop it off tomorrow and tell them I will be back tonight when it is fixed! Or I will tell the world about the ****ty service.......

The thing that really pisses me off is that I can do all of this on my own if I were in my garage.

Anyone know what the problem is?

Anytime I have been to a dealership they have you sign a contract stating you either require a written estimate before work is performed or not. I'm not sure if this is a Florida law, a liability catch-all on the dealerships part, or what, but I would check into it if I were you.

Sorry to hear about your loss... of $.

The clutches on these C-5s have some problems. Do a search on the clutch in the Tech section and you may find information your looking for. I looked in my Factory service manuals and no diagnosis for high clutch engagement. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I used to be a auto tech, and I would see the high pedal on cars with hydraulic clutches and no adjustment meant time for a clutch.

thanks for the info.....not what i was looking for....

I think it would be ridiculous to put a stock clutch back in? Will the Z06 clutch be any benefit for my modded auto?

If I remember correctly flushing the clutch master and slave cylinders requires removal of the exhaust and removal of the center bridge cover and then re-installation of these items. It is not a simple put the car on a lift and pump the pedal job like it is on a C4. If you look at the flat rate manual and see the number of hours required to do these tasks and multiply by the labor rate you probably get close to your $400.

Never give the mechanic the diagnosis (even if you are certain you know what is wrong). Let them tell you what needs to be done and how much it is going to cost. When you tell them the costs always go higher.

However, being a kid (27) and going to a dealership and telling them to fix my car, I have been taken advantage of......

So I told them what I thought might be the problem and the "fix" for it....I wasn't telling them what to do, but I did want them to know that I have some knowledge of what is going on.....make sense? I didn't want them to call me in a couple hours and tell me....Oh, sir....you need a new clutch....

Got the car back last night and they couldn't find anything wrong.....3 technicians drove it (joy ride) and said it was fine, but the clutch does engage slightly higher than normal????

This sucks.....

Thanks for listening and the help....

I've taken my cars to City Chevrolet and they never impress me, except for when they did the column lock recall. At this point there really isn’t much you can do but complain that you didn’t authorize this kind of cost.
How bad is your clutch? It sounds like your car may be fine? I wouldn’t sweat it if you’ll be going home in a couple of weeks. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that. If your interested. I have a McLeod Adjustable Master Cylinder for a C5 with 3k miles. Cheapest I've seen these for is $299 before s/h. I'll take $150. I just dropped $4k on my clutch problems, but that is a 6 month saga that I'll save everyone from.

You should have bought an automatic instead. It is not too late to do so. There seems to be much more issues with manual transmissions.
