Default headers and high flow cats

who makes the best headers and high flow cats? ive been looking and whats the difference between shorties and long tube headers? they also talk about tube diameters which would you get for a stock vette? will my vette be much louder, i already have a catback (b&b route 66 with magnaflow x-pipe), because i dont want it to be too loud. will it increase interior resonance? and also years ago i had headers on my 79 z28 and they were the worst things i ever put on. i could keep them tightened even with locktite and i was also hearing the exhaust leak is this a problem with the headers for vettes? is the money worth the hp how much rwhp do you get with headers and high flow cats? thanx guys/gals

As far as asking who makes the best, that is opening a can of worms I have FLP and love them, they work for me and I'm satisfied other people will say LG's headers are the best and they do show pretty good gains.

Keep the stock gaskets, don't use the cheap paper gaskets because they will leak everytime and also the other trick is to use a good quality header bolt that will not loosen over time, this is what I use Breslin they work great

I have RK sport and they dont leak they seem to be a deeper tone than stock but you couldnt tell unless i told you so it may be all in my head
i bout new gaskets from a cheap parts store and they sealed great i bought 1 gasket from gm and decideed there was no way id use it it was just 2 pieces of tin that went together
the gaskets i used were about 1/8 inch thick and they looked like they would comrpess after i bolted everything up
the gm gaskets looked like they would bend aroudn the headers but they looked like any small piece of debris stuck between them and the header would cause a leak
ultimately i chose the 9$ a set gaskets from the cheap parts store rather than the 30$ a set from gm

I had FLP's great bang for the buck, got mine for $1425 delivered, took 4 hours to install. Showed a gain of 30 RWHP.

But if cost were no object, today I'd opt for the LG's.

Just my .02

Heres the dyno chart before/after of my LGM LT header install. I'm very
pleased and have had no problems. They were installed at LGM in Dallas.
The header install was before the cam (see sig) swap and after the 4.10
rear end upgrade. Oh yeah, this is with highflo cats.

Gains: RWHP=21.1 RWTQ=27.5

I hear LGM, BBK, and Random Technology all make very good products. I think a lot of folks us the Random Technology high flow cats. Have fun.

I am looking into the Dynatech headers - seem to be a good quality product that gives a good performance gain. They come with the Random Technology high flow cats as a package. For a stock Vette, stick with the 1 3/4" tubes. The 1 7/8" ones are for bigger displacement engines (at least according to vendors I have spoken with). You will probably get a little more noise with the headers, but that could vary by brand. Good luck with your choice.
