What a wide variety of gas milage post by you guys, most are over the 16.7 MPG my DCI is recording time to get it checked I suppose--thanks for all the input...

Depends on whether you're doing a lot of city (stop/go) driving or hwy driving. Also depends on your driving style.. If you go to 3500-4000rpm's on launching & shifting, you mpg will go down..
I usually get over 17 mpg, but that's combined city/hwy. I'm only on the hwy 2 days/week. Otherwise it's brief city trips (the worst for mpg). I don't get on it a lot, but I don't baby it either..
My '01 gets just a hair over 18 in the city. However, on the highway, I get 29 to 30 with cruise control set at 75 mph. Totally amazing economy from a supercar.
Now, when one of those rice-burners needs a lesson in humility, my mpg suffers somewhat because I occasiionally volunteer to teach the lesson. <G>
I find that the ave. mpg on the DIC is inaccurate. Your ave. mpg will continuously drop if you're stopped at a red light. It will calculate 0 mpg every second thus affecting you gauge.

calculating mpg the old way is still hit or miss. suppose you fill your tank up, drive around until you need gas, fill your tank up, and figure your mileage. well how do you know you filled your tank up to the exact level as before? those gas station shut-off nozzles differ from station to station, and when they do shut off, most people top the tank off or add to some to an even $ amount. now there could be a +/- gallon factor here. ...and then there's a bunch of other stuff to contend with, (e.g., variations in temps, types of driving - stop and go, different brands of gas, etc.). it would take many-many tank fulls of gas, over a long period of time, to get a good INDICATION of true gas mileage (actual vs. indicated). it would take controlled lab conditions to get an accurate reading - period! no flames please, cause i'm not saying the DIC is accurate either, but its all relative - WHEN YOU NEED GAS, FILL HER UP!!!
BTW, back in july, i took my 04 z06 on vacation - 2350 miles. it was about +90% highway - ran the car fairly easy. my DIC readout INDICATED 25.8 mpg for the whole trip - i calculated 24.6 - (TOTAL miles/TOTAL gallons of gas.
normal everyday driving, combo city/highway, spirited driving, the DIC indicated mid 16+ mpg.
The DIC is nice but it's as accurate as the "old fashioned" method to calculate fuel mileage. FYIW my DIC read's about 2 MPH higher than reality.
To get an accurate reading you must use the same fill technique (I use the let it fill unitl it shuts off and I don't try to squeeze in any more, I use the same service station and same pump if possible, I zero Trip A and use that to record my mileage, I re-fuel using the above technique and caluclate the MPG using a hand calculator taking the decimals to .XX)
And even temp, humidity and altitude can impact fuel mileage not to mention driving techniques.

Hey Dave living in Texas, you must run your AC most of the year, I guess that lowers the mpg as well. I just gave up my S2000 Rice burner I ain't no vette that's fer sure !
During a normal week of daily driving I rarely get over 15 mpg. I don't think anything is wrong with your DIC. Sounds like your right foot weighs almost as much as mine.
Remember there are a lot of, how shall I say, more chronologically advanced 'vette owners, who drive a bit differently than some of us.
I've had my 01 Z06 for a month and my average fuel economy in that time is 12.2 MPG. I have a short trip to work with a lot of lites and can't keep my foot out of it! It still gets better mileage than my 02 Dodge Ram which was getting 9 when I got rid of it a couple weeks ago with 17,000 miles on it.
