I have my daily driver for that.

Question is. With a STOCK converter. How much "wear" does a WOT run up to 80MPH from a dead stop really do to the car? Is not the car DESIGNED for that type of driving? Mobil1 in the engine and everything in operating temps, does it hurt the car?
Eventually (sooner than someone who babies their car) you will wear out the clutches in the A4.
At that time you can "beef" up the tranny and put a 2500-3000 stall speed converter and have even more fun!
By then also you'll probably have an ATI D1sc blower on it and you can start wearing it out again so you can go the 427 route-don't we have fun!!!

aww come on guys, give me a break!!!

thanks to LOTS of flooring it, i blew up a tranny, tc and gears in my last c5 (a '99) about 4 months ago, and it was an expensive event!
so now i'm just eaaaaasing into the new z, thanks very much.

with a screaming torch red z that sticks out like a sore thumb during the day, the only time i have really gotten on it was late at night after leaving work. have only hit about 110-120 so far, at about 1 a.m. not too much open road where i live. have barely driven it too.

hey eb, i used to say the same thing before with my '99, till my tranny & tc got roasted like a nice prime rib! (you might recall all of our conversations about swapping out for the 3.42s--thanks very much for all the advice at the time).

so now i'm taking it a little easy till i get used to this car's power. it's really something! i'll punch it wot soon....

I feel for anyone who has a C5 and has not driven it at WOT, cause anything less and you don't get to experience the full potential of the car.

Drive it like you stole it.

Yeah, I remember. What happened with the tranny and TC? Did you have a tranny cooler?

eb: i had everything replaced up at a&a. then put in 3.42's, etc.

unfortunately, a little too much time spent at a&a and seeing all those amazing cars really put me over the edge: i pulled the trigger and bought a new '04 z!!! was going to wait another year to replace the '99, but the c6 just didn't do it for me, this was the last year for the c5 whose body style i think is timeless, and i got a heck of a deal on the z. paid over $10k LESS than i did for the '99, plus 0% financing, plus gm card rebate.... was an easy choice.

have always wanted a z in the combo i got (i searched far & wide for torch red/mod red, across the country basically), so this is it for me for a loooong time.

happily, the '99 'vert went to someone in good hands, a local forum member. i was sad to see it go away, but i'm glad it went to someone who appreciated it. he's doing a bunch of mods to it for some reason (i thought it was fine--and the 3.42's with the magnaflows...wow!), so i guess he's having fun which is all that matters.

I'm somewhat speechless. I can't believe all the people that are afraid to floor it. What are you afraid of? Why buy a 350+ hp car if you are only going to use 200 of it? If it was bad to run it up to the redline, then GM would make the redline lower, wouldn't they?

I'm counting the days to get my own C5, and I plan to rev the berries off of it every day, just like I do with my Boxster. Sure, my clutch might wear out faster than other people's, but I'll be having a hell of a lot more fun. Of course, I can just get her rolling nice and easy and then wait until I have the clutch out before I nail it. That'll save a lot of wear...

I go WOT as much as possible when it is safe to do so.

On a good day, I only use 1st, 2nd, and 6th.

I do the same on my 3000GT VR-4, even on wet roads. AWD is incredible! I wish the Vette had it.

Anyway, the computer learns, so I let it learn from idle to redline.

because there's absolutely nowhere for me to do it in the immediate area in which i live. too many cops, too small roads. have to drive way out of the way (2+ hours) to get to more rural area to open it up. since i work 70+ hours a week, the opportunity to do so is rare. heck, i rarely leave 4th gear during my work commute, because it's over in 12-15 minutes and the speed limit tops out at 55 mph on those roads!!!

i'll get to the land of wide open throttle at 120+ someday... heck, it's something to look forward to! the track is where i really want to wind it out.

alright already...i FLOORED IT TONIGHT IN 4 GEARS AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT SPEEDS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK, OKAY???

all i can say is...HOLY SHEEEEEEYAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 1st through 3rd from a stop at wot is just plain violent. i quickly learned not to floor 1st from a slight roll at 10-15 mph unless i want to go sideways.

the 5th to 4th downshift at around 60 mph then hitting wot is less violent, but still very potent. 110 "or so" mph comes up reeeeealllll fast.

the 5th to 3rd downshift at around 60 mph then hitting wot is a genuine gut- wrenching-rev-limiter-bouncing affair.

i really, really like this car.

there is a big difference between using and abusing-she was built to run and she does a damn good job of doing it-just do not do it at every stop light..
