Just drove my new (to me) 2000 C5 FRC today, and when I was on surface streets, not accelerating hard, I kept getting the "1st to 4th" light. That sucks! Why did GM do that?

Yeah, it's supposed to save gas but it ends up just making me use more. I always find myself waiting a few seconds out of gear until the light goes out and then putting it in second!
There is no avoiding the light in city traffic. My CAGS defeat arrived today !
You did the correct thing. I guess those folks who tell us to just give it more gas do not drive in stop and go rush hour traffic on an Interstate. I put in my CAGS defeat as my first mod right before the CLB. You need both of these without any debate BUT you will get lots of debate and it is needless in my opinion. Just do both and get over it.

It's not supposed to save gas, it's supposed to save you $500 in gas guzzler tax. So you pay $20 after purchase to net a $480 bonus. The alternative for Chevy would be to emasculate the engine to reduce fuel consumption. I'd rather they did what they did.

Corsa Indy exhausts and Hi-flow cats have seemed to keep that annoying light from coming on. Might help you too
