Having read over and over again about the terrors of Column Lock I bought myself a CLB from Corvettes of Houston for my 2000 MN6.
As the car was due for a dealer service and had an outstanding recall I did not try to install it until this morning. Everything went swimmingly until the point where the lighter power lead was supposed to unlock the steering column. It didn't, and I got a 'pull key and wait 10 secs' message followed by 'service column lock'. It is firmly and definitely stuck. Their is definitely power to the socket on the end of the lighter power lead.
The instructions say follow the 'instructions in the GM manual for removal of 'Locking Mechanism Instruction'. I have absolutely no idea what this means; there is nothing in my owner's manual about this at all.
Pull key wait 10 secs and start over...you may have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes...never heard of this problem before....when I applied power to mine it unlocked and that was it...hooked up the CLB and never looked back...I would definetly try again....but like I said pull the NEG cable first then start over..good luck

Mine went smooth also. When the power was applied, the mechanism unlocked. Good luck getting the CLB installed.
Mine went smoothly too. there have been some here who have reported problems but they were earlier models. The suggestion of disconnecting the battery and starting over is a good one. Good luck.
I did the CLB to my 98 with no problems. I just went through the tech tips section and the CLB instructions didn't address the issue you are having. Check the connection at the cigarette lighter cable. Maybe the power isn't getting to it.
Not sure if you have power to the end of the connector that goes to the CLB. If not, check the fuse in the power cord, as some have had the fuse to blow and had to install a larger fuse.
I have great news. I decided to have my lunch, and whilst doing so I left the lock circuit disconnected.
After my lunch I reconnected the original circuit and the column unlocked. So I thought while it was still in a good mood I'd have another go with the lighter socket lead, and it worked.
Bypass is now sucessfully installed.
I did get the '10 second' message, but it cleared first time with the fuse routine.
Unfortunately I had the doors open for so long that my aging battery went almost dead, but everything is fine now.
