When I turn the headlight switch one click the driving lights come on , and the headlights pop up without lighting up. One more click and the headlights come on. Now for the grand finale, when I turn the switch off the lights close as they are supposed to, but I hear a gear grinding sound for about 10-15 seconds after they are down. Any help would be greatly apreciated before I bring it in for service. Thanks

Grinding sound is definitely the plastic gear on the headlight motor - mine went out a few weeks back, and warranty replaced it. Next time, when out of warranty, will realign the gear (turn it around to the unused side) as the reply above indicates. Eventually, the grinding will stop on its own, but unfortunately, so does the headlamp door motion.
You might want to rebuild the headlight gear...or take this as an opportunity to go to fixed lights if you were considering it. The rebuild is an easy, inexpensive fix IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF.
