I have a 98 top on my 02. There was a very very minor change between those two years but they do fit just fine. The little tab that holds the glass at the top was moved slightly rearward on the 02 to more evenly apply the needed pressure to make a tight, even seal.

Why do you have a 98 top on your car, did you join the Flyin roof club or did you only have a single top for the car such as the painted top and decided to get the transparent top or vice versa

I just bought a Red 04 coupe. It came with both tops but the clear top was vandalized prior to my purchase. The price I paid reflected that the clear top was damaged so I'm looking into replacing the damaged top with a used top from the forum or Ebay. Thanks for your input!
97 to 04 are all interchangable but there may be a need for some small adjustments in the latches.
My 98 swaps exactly with my 04 top.
I just swapped a transparant for a solid top via the Forum and it cost me $85 at PostNet to have it packed and shipped. The other guy sent his back in the same box with the same packing. Great swap.
However, my 98 transparant top sat in a storage area for 5 years wrapped in an old sheet. When I got it out, most of the outer surface was "checked" and looked like there was once some sort of coating that had flaked off. So I wrapped it back up in the old sheet and am saving t for no known reason.
They are very prone to shipping damage - if there is any kind of impact to the rear edge it will arrive damaged and unrepairable. If you are buying a used top I would only buy from someone close enough to drive to for a in-person pick-up. The first solid top I bought (e-bay) appeared to be packaged securely but was damaged in transit and not repairable. The cost of shipping (if Fed-ex) itself is not bad ~$50. Here a pic of the damage to the first one I bought (and spent a month returning and getting a refund ):
I picked the second one up. My experience was with solid tops - but the rear edge of the "glass" tops looks equally vulnerable. Good luck!
Mine came with the Lexan top. I bought a mint composite top which included a 600 mile round trip (fun ride in the Vette). I would be cautious about shipping one.
My new 04 came with the solid top and I bought a used one but I made the trip to pick it up. The transparent top has a very minor scratch on the drivers side and a small wear print on the passenger's side but inless you are doing a white glove inspection you would never notice. The replacement fits with no modification and does not leak in the rain.
ive bought 2 tops off ebay (dont ask why...) and ive have very good experiances everytime. No damage at all! just look around on ebay and ask the stipper to bubble wrap it good!

I just recently obtained a TR Top for my 04 from a forum member. It was off of a 99 and it fit tighter then the Lexan top that came with the car. It looks great and the color matched up without a noticeable problem.
As for shipping....I think it cost about $75- to ship and it was wrapped so tightly with bubble wrap I had to Zaino the imprints off. But it showed up in great condition, so the more bubble wrap the better.

Bought the car with the glass top ONLY and really wanted a solid colored one too. (or so I thought)
Bought an Arctic White one from an Ebayer for $300, painted it EB and have hardly ever used it.
I bought it right away after getting the car. I should have waited because I ended up liking the glass top much more.

Shipping shouldn't be expensive, either 35# or 70# rate depending on box dimensions. Most people are not qualified to pack these, so if you buy one, I'd demand they take it to a professional store to pack it (or guarantee refund if it gets damaged as UPS/FEDEX will likely deny claims).
