Default Exterior Finish Problem

was hoping to get some input on getting GM to fix my paint, wondering if anyone has successfully done so and the steps they took? (outside the legal process - don't want to go there unless i have too).
beside the moderate orange peel, hundred's of fine scratches show up in direct sunlight, clear coat seems to mar/scratch with slight pressure. color is MY. have started the complaint process with GM and rep is going to look at the car.

Sounds like you're further ahead in the process than many I've seen who post their paint issues & complaints here in CF. If you've got a GM rep showing up to look at your paint, you're doing something right.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Default Update - Help

the selling dealer and local dealer have been of no help - except for good lip service - did get a referal to a slam/bam shop the local dealer uses (first words out of their reps mouth "we won't even touch a vette") and the GM rep blew me off based on their evaluation. so on to the next step, going to try the BBB auto line.
hope too hear from anyone sucessful in getting this type problem resolved, also looking for a person or shop with a wave-scan meter to read the finish on my car

You'll probably have to bite the bullet. GM has/is unwilling to address this issue (from my personal experiance).

I finally got a local shop to color sand my Verts. Costs were about $500 per car, but was worth every cent.

The amount of money, aggrevation and headaches it could potentially cause you probably isn't worth fighting for. It may be easier to take it to a professional detailer or bodyshop and have it done to your satisfaction. Besides, the best I would see warranty doing is telling you to take your car to a local chevy bodyshop to have them wetsand and buff it.

Do you really want to take it to just any ol' dealership bodyshop?

Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction one way or another.

Good luck with the paint. I don't think I would want a GM bodyshop working on mine, but there may be a good one out there somewhere.

Okay, let's first understand a few things; the dealer isn't really going to do anything because that's the way the car was delivered to him from the factory. The only way he'd do something is if the factory rep authorized payment. Second, you need to make an honest evaluation of the paint compared to other new Corvettes, not compared to the perfect paint job you'd like to have. Like all manufacturers, GM in general and Chevrolet in particular, have quality control parameters that they adhere to. If your car has a paint job equal to that of most new Corvettes, there's not much GM is going to do. From their point of view, if you want a perfect paint job, don't buy a $40k car, go buy a $100k Porsche.

Now, having covered those two things, let's get into what you CAN do IF your car has a substandard paint job (if it is standard Chevy quality, you're SOL as far as getting financial aid).

I'd be very curious to the details of the factory rep, "blew me off based on their evaluation". What evaluation? What did the rep say exactly? Second, you can move up the ladder. Ask the rep who he/she reports to and call that person up. Escalate the problem further up the management chain. The hardest part is getting a contact.

You can then contact your state government. Usually the Governor has an office of consumer affairs. Tell the GM rep you intend to file a complaint; that sometimes motivates them a little. Finally, I'd call Clark Howard, a consumer expert here in Atlanta who goes after corporations who don't provide good customer service. Check him out at: www.clarkhoward.com

My local dealer offered to have my WHOLE car wet sanded at the BODY shop of MY choice. The dealer was willing to file it as warrenty, and GM didn't pay , then they said THEY would pay the cost.

I took it to a shop a have ALOT of faith in, and they said they would love to have the work, but they felt that it would be a mistake to wet sand the factory clear coat, that it would only cause ALOT more problems down the road.

I hope you realize what a great dealer you have and how unusual such service is. There's a case for not always going for the lowest price. Sometimes it's worth it to pay a bit more.

I agree. I am so blessed. One Sunday, I snapped a bolt off IN a caliper bracket. I called the dealer (Buds chevy) at 8:00 Monday AM. By 8:30 they had a flat bed truck in my driveway to pick my car up. They not only replaced the bolt, they gave me a NEW caliper bracket, and put all 4 of my new slotted and drilled rotors on the car for me, while they had the car up in the air.

When I get an oil change that takes 30 min. they offer me another used Vette to drive to work.

They have a service tech that only works on Vettes, and has for 15+ years.

I'm lucky

Hmmmmm

Wonder how long it takes to drive from Roswell, Georgia to Ohio for an oil change?
