Chrome/Painted alternator.......
I know you can buy a chrome alternator for 600 big ones, but has anyone disassembled their own to have it chromed or painted? I was looking at the alternator and there is some sort of cover in front of the pulley. I read its some kind a clutch assembly. Is that true and how to you take it apart. Was anyone brave enough to take it apart. I've done old alternators (for my 67 Nova) but this one looks complicated

I've taken apart the CS-style GM alternators to re-clock them when I worked at a parts chain. I will tell you, they are a pain to reassemble and have it still work. If you don't do this on a daily basis, I would recommend that you either buy a chrome one or a chrome/painted cover to put over your alternator. The old Delcotron alternators were an absolute snap to pull apart and rebuild! Also, the voltage regualtor in the CS-style are very tempermental as well. Good luck!
