Why do Mustangs like to try and show off near my car? They rev their engines and think they have hotrods! Do they like to show off for a woman or do they think they have something to prove?
I had a red, late 60's Stang creep up on my rear bumper a few days ago at a stoplight...really close. When the light went green, I took off normally and he kept right on my backside, nice and close. I homped on it just to get away from him and he quickly faded, but I am sure that was what he wanted me to do. Further down the road he changed lanes and just hung out behind me on my right rear, keeping the same pace as me... I think he was simply checking the Vette out, or maybe listening to my B&B Bullets.
First it was the mustangs, now it's the "hey is that got a hemi in it." Does my corvette look like a dodge, go bug someone in a BMW. I've heard almost and see almost everything. Sorry for the rant.

Both your reasons sound about right. Also, it could just be a part of the culture between the two brands of cars. Just ignore them - you know what you have.
The Mustang is Ford's Corvette. It is the best, fastest car of that class that the average person can obtain that has it's own history and following. There are some respectable Stang's out there. But it has never, ever been a Corvette.
Just make sure you have a good coat of wax while they drool on your baby.
Of course the 2005 Mustang promises to be pretty stout.... It is still not a Corvette......
Still more respectable than a fartpipe rice burner.....
