Default Reverse and Active Handling

Last night I left my house and of course forgot something so I stopped put my MN6 in reverse and started back towards the house. All of a sudden the car slowed down and I noticed the active handling light came on. I went to start again and it stayed on until I made a u-turn and drove straight.

Should I be turning off the AH when backing up quickly? Is there a note somewhere that this happens or was it just a fluke of somekind.

Your turning tires in reverse?! I would guess the active handling doesn't care what direction your going - but would like to know for sure - good for the Corvette Trivia Pursuit game!

I'll give you credit for spirited driving!

Drive it like you stole it!

well I do drive it hard (why else have the it), but in this case I was about 100 yards from the house, I hit the brakes, put the car in reverse, let the clutch out and took off backwards down the road. Now I am not 100% sure when the active handling kicked in. It was either when the car was still straight or when I just turned the wheel to make the u-turn back (I made the u-turn onto a side street). I would assume the u-turn part would make more sense because maybe the front wheels were sliding.

I guess I might be able to recreate what happened, but I am not sure if the neighbors are too keen on me flying backwards down our little private road....

This doesn't surprise me that it happened, although I have not had it happen to me,,,but I think the system is very sensitive and sometimes very sudden movements,,even if not intended , the Active Handeling will come on.
I have noticed if I hit a bad bump sometimes my DIC will actually say "Service Act Hndlg" "ABS" Traction cntrl" I had this happen 2 or 3 times in the last year. The dealer checked it out (yes they actually are a very good stealership) The tech that works there has his own business on the side tuning High HP vettes..and even he could not find anything wrong after a lot of tests and scope.

Just a very sensitive system I guess.

I have gotten these same messages 3 times in the last couple months, but at start up, not while driving. It seems to be heat related in my case. By that I mean it has never happened in the morning in my garage. It happened after short stops (twice to Home Depot, once at work) of less than 15 minutes. Each time was during the heat of a Texas afternoon. After the car sits for a few hours the messages go away at the next start up.

Anyway, I remember reading a thread a while ago (haven't done a search yet) where someone had the same "Service Act Hndlg" "ABS" Traction cntrl" messages, and it turned out to be some connector (I think at the steering column or one of the wheels/brakes).

Frank, the fact that yours acts up when you hit a bump could indicate a lose connection somewhere.

WW, I'll try a "quick" reverse with mine and if AH comes on I'll let you know. I wouldn't expect that to be the norm though.

Thanks Roscoe- I am thinking that's what it probably is, a loose connection somewhere..I also did notice that it tends to do it when it's been raining or damp...but it hasn't rained here for about 3 weeks so we'll see.
