Rear End Howl
I have a 02 Z06 and have noticed that the ear end has started to howl a little. Is this nomal? I have just over 30,000 on it and was wondering if I should take it in on warranty and have it checked out.

most likely you will need to add an ounce or so of GM slip additive. get under it and check if you rear seals are leaking. and if you don't want to mess with it you are under warranty take her in and let them deal with it.

While at Carlisle,GM Engineers informed me a Z06 Owner will develop a howling effect in the rear-end if you fail to break it in properly. Properly,according to them was...varying your speeds and RPM's for the first 500 miles..No jackrabbit starts and no quick braking....When I asked him about the 55 mph limit until reaching the mystical 500 mile barrier...he scoffed at that and said I could take it up to higher speeds,just get there slowly and do not stay at any 'constant' speed for any length of time......Take it for what it is worth he said...I have now 530 miles on my Z16 and it has NO howling noises.Now am ready for some fun....")

A howling noise from the rear end is not normal. I suggest you have a qualified service tech check it out.
On acceleration, there is often a "rocks tumbling in a can" sound. Althoug it doesn't sound normal, it is.
