My 04 I just bought yesterday seems like it is too tight or something?? When I punch it it doesn't seem as free revving as my 01 I traded. The 04 has 600 miles on it so it is broken in. Don't get me wrong, it is very fast but it doesn't feel the same as my 01. Could it be that the 01 was an a4 and this is a 6-speed? Or does the engine need more breaking in???
kind of funny, when i got my 2000 c5 with 17k miles on it i thought the same thing...it felt tight like the engine was brand new or something and never saw over 3000 rpms...now that i have my hands on it for 2 months and a few dragstrip runs the engine sure is freewheeling now.....now is it because of me beating on it or is it because i just got use to it i dont know....but i think if u just give it a few more weeks and some nice 6000 rpm runs (once the engine is broken in) youll notice the same as i did......just my 2 cents from a noob on cars....
I think the break in probably has something to do with it - 600 miles isn't exactly broken in, especially with synthetic oil. The car will gain power up towards 5000 miles based on alot of people's experiences.
The other may be the what gsxr alluded to - if it has never seen WOT then the computer hasn't established correct trims etc for WOT.
Also, you say 600 miles, but that you got it yesterday - is this the 1st tank of gas (ie. did the dealer put this tank of gas in the car)? If so, they may not have put 93 in , and you may be getting some KR.
I dont' think it is a transmission difference unless it is the way you're driving. *Typically* an auto won't feel quite as quick as an MN6.
I'd give it more break-in time for sure.
Just a few ideas.
I've had several new GM cars in the last 6 yrs ('00 Camaro, '02 Z28, '01 vette, '03 vette) and all of them seemed "tight" to me until somewhere around 15K.
