HUD problem common ?

Can you be more specific? The display should only light up the selected options - BUT under the right conditions will reflect the entire display when sun light hits it directly. Check your manual and see if this is what you are experiencing.

But my guess also is the lighting condition, it freaks you out the first time you see it happen because you think your HUD is screwing up.

I noticed the same thing the other day...the sun was directly overhead, around 1PM, and the bright sun brought out some other things on the HUD. When I would drive under a tree, the problem would disappear. Seems to be a sun-related issue, and not a true problem with the HUD.
