Default 40# recommended tire pressure?

Took the C5 in for an alignment today and the tech told me I was crazy to put in 30psi cold. He has been around many years and his alignments are the best I have ever found. He claims 40psi will give me longer tread wear (which is cool with me). I am confused and am turning to my brethren of the forum. Any feedback greatly appreciated!
I am running stock runflats.

Hmmm the user manual says 30 the door sticker says 30. Both written by GM. Guess it boils down to who do you trust, all of GMs engineers or one alignment tech...

I've usually run about 30 cold in my OEM Goodyears............37K miles and the fronts are good for another 5 or 6. Replacing all 4 soon though.

If they drop to 27 or 28 in cold weather.........I don't add.......they warm up pretty quick to 30

I hope you have a good dental plan because you will be jarring your teeth out at 40 psi.

40 at cold translate to +45 at temp; If I'm not mistaken, this is not good for the sidewalls of a radial. You may have tread but.........
I'd be careful with this info.

Not to mention seeing the high tire pressure message on your DIC everytime you start it up!

Geez - the stock EMT's ride like wooden wheels on an ox-cart, when inflated to 30 psi.....

I cannot even imagine what they would be like at 40 psi

Sorry - I have to go with the GM recommendation - 30 psi.

In Arizona, I usually keep my BFG KDW's at 28 psi cold - which takes them to about 31 - 32 hot.

I could be wrong but I believe you will receive "high pressure" messages on the Dic from the tire sensors with 40 + lbs. I run 30 lbs cold. Hope this helps.

Over inflation will cause premature wear in the center of the tire.

My tech also tried to put 40 # in my tires (runflats) until I showed him the inside of the door. We put them back to 30#. Actually, I run them at 28 so that when they warm up they are at 31-32.

I don't believe the techs are familar with run flat tires.

Yeah, and lots of wheel hop! When I bought my car new, every time I would get on it just a little bit and the tires started to spin, MASSIVE wheel hop. Took me about a day to realize it was the tire pressure. put it down to 30, pure tire spin and grab!

Don't do it! Premature wear in the center, poor ride, reduced traction. Not a good combination.

And, the GM service manual says 30 psi. When the tire pressure goes above 42 psi the Tire Pressure Monitoring System will display the High Tire Pressure warning message. Starting with 40 psi in you tires, it won't take many miles of driving before your tire pressure goes above 42 psi.

Your Alignment tech must spend his nights at his second job playing the village Idiot...
30 psi is the right number.. the only difference I have is my 30 psi is based on Hot tire pressure.. based on road conditions , just like any winston cup or nascar, formula 1 car tire pressure is set up.. they monitor the road temperature and adjust it accordingly to get the most milage out of the tires.. Personally , using this approach I got 43,000 miles out of my first set of EMT's...
I never allow my tires to get over 30 psi hot !!

Sorry, but no way I would put 40 lbs pressure in the tires. Good way for the center of the tread to wear out very quickly. 30 psi cold is what is recommended by GM and the tire manufacturers.
