Default Discount Tire Nightmare!

Took my 2K coupe in to have 4 new tires put on that I bought from a forum member. All was well, one of the front tires wouldn't hold pressure, but was expected and explained by the forum member prior to me picking them up.
The nightmare starts out like this, it took 1.5 hours for some lazy ******* to put 4 tires on my car. He had to remove the right front 2x as the new one was damaged and he had to put the original back on. Bottom line is I'm a hot ticket after an hour of watching this nitwit work. I talk to the manager and say next time I come in I don't want this lazy *******(exact words) working on my car. I want this guy over here who had turned over about 5 cars since mine had been sitting there. As I'm telling the manager how unhappy I am that it takes so long, another manager chimes in that he has changed tires for the last 5 years and that vettes take a long time because of the runflats. I politely asked him if I was talking to him and he walked off.
My tire-tard is on my 4th wheel when a guy in the bay next to mine starts spraying black rustolium all over the inside of his wheelwell. I flipped out. This guy with an F250 is in having his tires rotated and he's spraying black rustolium all over his wheel wells after the service guy takes a wheel off, I mean all 4 wheel wells. I started yelling in the waiting room and asking what was going on and if this was a body shop or not and they said not to worry. I did see the manager go out and ask the guy to stop painting his car in the garage, but it was after he already did all 4 wheel wells and rotors and ****.
Upon further ispection when I brought it hom, in low light, I now have about 400 black rustolium drops on my silver 2k coupe. I'm sure I'm going to find more in the morning when I can look at it in full daylight.
I don't want to go back to discount tire in the morning without talking it over with you lads. What are my options? I know that rustolium penetrates whatever surface it's put on, so I think it's gone through my clearcoat. What would you do if this happened to you and your vette?
Loading up the 16 and going in blazing isn't an option, but it's been thought of....

Very sorry about your car! I would be livid, no I'd be F'n pi$$ed!

I would be going to the District manager first thing in the morning. Take lots of pictures and prepare for a battle. Next time, support your locally owned businesses - they care if you come back or not!

Hope you have Zaino on her!

Let us know if they make it right...

Discount tires has been great to deal with here in Vegas. The one on North Ranch is awesome.

I would call the district manager and let them know exactly what happened with the paint overspray as suggested earlier.

Thanks mate, I did the whole Zaino process when I got her a few weeks ago. I put a couple coats of the mcquires recommended here on her in the last couple weeks.
I did a fingernail rub on one of the spots and it didn't make a mark in the spot, so I am figuring it's going to be a cast iron bitch to remove the paint spots. The hood alone has over 30 drops of the paint on it, and that's in bad light. I'm afraid of what I'm going to find in the morning.
I am so upset. I saved and worked my *** off to buy this car, and something like this happens. I just hope that someone at discount tire is a vette owner and takes pitty on me for what's happened.

I doubt if it could be as bad as rail dust. I dealt with that on a MY 2003 Z06. I just had a good shop machine buff the car with light rubbing compound and then buff and wax. Dealer paid. No problem.

I'm sure your car will be fine with a similar treatment by a reputable body/detail shop that YOU pick. Discount should certainly pick up the tab. They should also charge nothing for any mounting work performed.

Tough to even think straight when stupid people make you that mad.

Certainly go and talk to the manager of the store. They should pay to get the black paint off your car. It does take longer to work on runflats - they can be a real pain to get on and off the wheels. But, the tech may not have known what he was doing too. Good luck getting this resolved.

True. I took my 99 to Goodyear and had a 'Certified Run-Flat Technician' take my old sensors out and install them in the 2001 wheels when I bought the 2001 wheels and tires from a friend. It took him half a day to get it done. The biggest problem he had was getting the tire to inflate. . . And he was the expert.

It also took 3 hours to get my tires switched to new wheels. It is a slow process and remember how **** we all are not to have them scratch the old wheels or the new wheels. it just takes time

Have a good detailer look at your car. He will have handled this sort of problem before. A clay bar will most likely remove the paint spots with no harm to the paint. A painter spray paint some storage tanks with epoxy paint near where I worked and the spray drifted onto cars. A detailer came in and used clay bar and the cars then buffed out just fine. I good wipe job with 3M weatherstrip adhesive remover might also get some of the paint off if it hasn't dried too much.
I think you just hit a bad day/worker at Discount Tire. I had to have a flat fixed on one of my 03's runflats last week. Tech did a super job taking care with the wheel & tire.
As said before, stay cool and talk with the manager.

Totally!!! I had my car in to the dealers and it came out with overspray all down one side and on the wheels. I flipped out and they ran and got some clay bar. Well I was absolutely amazed it came off with no problem.
Let us know how it goes with yours.

I agree with everyone about talking to the management about the paint. If your car is damaged while they are working on it, they are responsible for that damage whether or not they caused it. It happened on their premises under their care. If you had caused the damage that might be another story, but some yahoo bubba did it, so the liability is on them.

I do not agree, however, with the amount of time taken to do your tires. I have always had extremely good experiences with DT and very rapid service once they get you in the bay. I bought 4 '03 polished wheels a few months ago and took the vette to DT to have my tires removed from the wagon wheels and mounted/balanced on the new 03's. One kid did it by himself. He knew what he was doing, used a special teflon padded bar to remove the tires, remounted the sensors, mounted and balanced the tires with weights inside the wheel as much as possible...all in about 40 mins. No problems...hard working kid...moved fast and very professional. He also demonstrated pride in the quality of his workmanship. So, this taking hours to do because they're runflats, Corvette wheels are difficult, sensors blah, blah...is

Wow. I think had it been me, the second I saw that painting going on, I'd have been there that moment insisting that it stop instead of having the manager "ask" him to stop...

Whenever my car is worked on, I'm right there watching everything going on. I don't care if they don't want me there or not, I'm going to see that things are done properly. Some "technicians" just don't give a damn about our cars...only about picking up a paycheck.

Real sorry about the damage...

I am the same way, I will stand and watch the whole time anything I own is being worked on. Some technicians really don't like that, and I can tell. Others (usually the good ones) could care less and will even walk me through the job showing me different things.

Sorry to hear about the situation and I'm with you and the others. I would have gone balistic. Call the district mgr and see what they can do. As suggested Clay Bar will probably do the trick in cleaning her up.

Too Bad. No one respects other peoples property anymore and sometimes I think our C5's become targets for azzh*les like you ran into. good luck.
