Hard to believe that you can fall in love with a car as soon as you sit in it and drive your first mile.

I was always hooked on BMW and Porsche and my one lady friend said get a corvette. I laughed many times thinking my Euro cars were better, then one day I took one out for a spin and now I own one and will always own one....

ok ok stop!! Everyone just stop!! We're going to ruin it for him I'll just say I agree with most everything said here.

The part about breaking your check book, has to do with what we call "mod fever" it's a strong virus you will catch soon after you buy that vette.... the symptoms will start with you buying an aftermarket exahust because you want it just a wee bit louder...then you'll realize that you want to let your vette "breathe" a little more so you'll be buying a better aftermarket air-filter or complete intake for that matter....then you'll be getting catalogs from the support vendors here (mid-america etc) then it's all over

GET THAT VETTE

oh and if you have any questions or need information, this is the best place to get it. Good luck

when I was in high school, a friend of my parents let me drive his red 87 auto coupe. just a mile or so up the road and back but still very

the 1st C5 I got in was mine. I was on the other side of the country and had sent to money to my parents and they were getting every thing ready for me to pick it up when i got home on leave, but they suprised me and had it waiting on me in the garage when i got there

1st manual transmission
1st 2 seater
1st car with my name on the title
1st car i took to a race track.

In short, it's the most fun thing you will ever do. There are vette owners with many different interest, from waxing to racing, but in the end, we're all one big family

I'm going to try to put it very plainly and very simply. No I'm not. It's impossible. Lemme try this: remember the feeling you got as a child when you opened the big christmas gift with your name on it and it was your favorite toy? The one you begged for and obeyed your parents' every whim so you could get it? Remember the toy you always kept clean and up on a shelf or pedestal above every other toy you had? Remember the feeling you used to get when you went somewhere and you just HAD to bring it with you? Remember the feeling you had when you forgot it, or weren't allowed to bring it with you? Remember the respect you used to get (or give) from your friends when you had the coolest, newest game or toy? Well, I forgot those feelings until I bought mine. All the people on the Forum are like a brand new circle of friends with the same cool toy, and only we understand the feelings we have about our cars. It's almost like a constant victory lap when you're in traffic, with people pointing and waving, complimenting and asking questions about it... and the Corvette lifestyle is such a fun and vast way of life, with so many options, you feel like you will never find out ALL there is to know about your car. It's addictive. I, like many others here, am at work, but I keep the Forum on so I can chat with and participate in the threads. It's the best part of most of my days. There are some great personalities here and the family just keeps growing. Don't make anymore excuses not to get it. It's the greatest gift you can give yourself. And I haven't even touched on the shows and events yet... boy, go and get the car!

hard to explain - it's not a rational thing.

everything about the experience (except dealers) is unique - the looks, performance, history and of course, the ownership 'club' factor like this forum, cruises, etc...

I've had mine just over two weeks, and everything said in the posts above are true. I had never driven one either, and the last one I had ridden in was a '71 that my roommate (before I got married) had. It rode like a wagon with that transverse leaf spring in the back.

I bought an '03 Anniversary edition. It's got a few miles on it, but the car was obviously pampered ... not a scratch on it, no wear on the leather, ... nothing, not even a rattle. I took it on a road trip to Atlanta this past weekend and it's stabiity is amazing. You'd think you were on rails. Acceleration is awesome and the ride is very comfortable. Gas mileage is great. And of course, there is the pride factor of driving such a car.

The reason I bought a car is that I turned in a lease (a Toyota Camry, if you can believe it ... drove like mush). Before that, I'd owned a Mitsubishi 3000, but there's no comparing it to the Vette. My son has a Porsche Boxster, and it looks archaic inside compared to the Vette's luxury. The Boxster is a little more nimble, but it is wrought with problems, from electrical to the power roof. It's a nice little car, but a money pit.

The only complaint I have about the Vette is that at my age, it's difficult to get in and get out of, especially in the garage next to another car, but I easily overcome that obstacle.

I wish I'd bought one sooner.

I'm 34 and just bought my first vette this summer. One thing I'd recommend is to be patient. I know its hard but you'll be glad you did it. Make sure you test drive each model (coupe, frc, vert, and Z06) even if you think you already know which one you like the best. Until you drive them you won't know for sure. Before test driving them all, I was sure I wanted a coupe. After test driving each model, I liked the vert and frc the best. The coupe was dead last after the Z06. The coupe was still great but I liked the other models better.

Until you compare them, you don't find out the things that distinuguish the models. Things like squeeks, rattles, blind spots, driving feel, acceleration, etc. I thought a coupe would offer the open air benefit of a vert with the practicality of a hard top. I was wrong. A ride in a vert with the top down is a much different experience than riding in coupe with the roof out.

Also, make sure you consider every color combo. You won't be able to see each one in person but you should be able to find pics of any one by searching in this forum. You don't want to buy a torch red vette and then fall in love with a mag red vette that you pass on the way back from the dealer.

Last, test drive automatic and manual transmissions to find out which one you like best, or if you don't have a preference either way.

Once you decide what vette you want...don't compromise! Search until you find the one you want for the price you feel is reasonable. Then, enjoy it!

What's it like?

its like having your greatest dream being fulfilled, a dream you had since childhood. You feel like running home everyday just to look at it, even after years of ownership. She makes you feel alive, you just can't get enough of that awesome sounding engine as it rumbles to life, the speed, the maneuverability, the feeling that you can accelerate to infinity.

As a little kid, I grew up loving cars. I had a huge matchbox and hotwheel collection by the time I was 4. My most favorite toy was a fisher price push car which I got at 2 years old, then I graduated to my big wheeler with the emergency 90 degree brake. From there it was my first bike. I just loved speed since I was a kid. And I loved sports cars. I always dreamed of owning a corvette or a ferrari or a lamborghini. In college, my notebooks were filled with sketches of the soon to be released C5, which all the car mags were leaking information of. From the specs, the price, and the looks of the renderings, I knew that was the car I was going to own, one way or another. It took me 4 years of saving, struggling to get a better job but when I was finally in a position to buy the car of my dreams, I did it and it was the most wonderful experience of my life. That day was truly a culmination of a lifetime of dreaming.
I didn't sleep at all the day before I picked her up at the dealership. Heck, I don't think I got a goods night rest for about a month before picking her up. When I finally sat down in my brand new corvette, I felt so happy, I got all teary eyes as I touched the steering wheel and realized that this vette was all mine. The smell of the leather was entoxicating, I could have spent the next week locked inside. The 50 mile drive hope was pure bliss as I got familiar with my dream car. Even today, I still feel the same way as I did the day I picked her up and I'll know that it'll always be like that.
The second pic in my signature is from the day I picked her up at the dealership. The only thing that could possibly top that day will be someday when I have my first kid, well second kid.
If you're still on the fence about whether or not you should get a vette, I say do it, do it now, do it as fast as you can by whatever means necessary so that you can know what we all feel. Good Luck!

Its the only car I've ever owned that even after two years I still find myself thinking up needless errands to run just for an excuse to drive it.

Looks, speed, handling, power, performance, excitement, fun, roof-off warm weather driving, comfort, the Corvette heritage, the Corvette Clubs for socializing with fellow Corvette owners...what other car in the world can deliver all the above??

Very Cool! This forum is great, if you live near these guys or gals that want to know the feeling, take em for a ride in yours! Better yet let em take it for a spin (with you in the seat of course).

i'll take any "gal" for a spin as long as they weigh less than 130lbs. not because of i'm a sexist but because more than 130 will slow my vette down that already stressing with 230lbs of my fat ***.
