What is it like?

I waited until I was 40 to get mine, Do it as soon as you can afford it, you won't be disappointed.
Wish I could remember the Ferris Bueller line when he is talking about the Ferrari CS...
"If you have the means, I highly recommend one!"
I was always hooked on BMW and Porsche and my one lady friend said get a corvette. I laughed many times thinking my Euro cars were better, then one day I took one out for a spin and now I own one and will always own one....

I'll just say I agree with most everything said here. The part about breaking your check book, has to do with what we call "mod fever" it's a strong virus you will catch soon after you buy that vette.... the symptoms will start with you buying an aftermarket exahust because you want it just a wee bit louder...then you'll realize that you want to let your vette "breathe" a little more so you'll be buying a better aftermarket air-filter or complete intake for that matter....then you'll be getting catalogs from the support vendors here (mid-america etc) then it's all over
GET THAT VETTE

oh and if you have any questions or need information, this is the best place to get it. Good luck

the 1st C5 I got in was mine. I was on the other side of the country and had sent to money to my parents and they were getting every thing ready for me to pick it up when i got home on leave, but they suprised me and had it waiting on me in the garage when i got there

1st manual transmission
1st 2 seater
1st car with my name on the title
1st car i took to a race track.
In short, it's the most fun thing you will ever do. There are vette owners with many different interest, from waxing to racing, but in the end, we're all one big family

everything about the experience (except dealers) is unique - the looks, performance, history and of course, the ownership 'club' factor like this forum, cruises, etc...
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I bought an '03 Anniversary edition. It's got a few miles on it, but the car was obviously pampered ... not a scratch on it, no wear on the leather, ... nothing, not even a rattle. I took it on a road trip to Atlanta this past weekend and it's stabiity is amazing. You'd think you were on rails. Acceleration is awesome and the ride is very comfortable. Gas mileage is great. And of course, there is the pride factor of driving such a car.
The reason I bought a car is that I turned in a lease (a Toyota Camry, if you can believe it ... drove like mush). Before that, I'd owned a Mitsubishi 3000, but there's no comparing it to the Vette. My son has a Porsche Boxster, and it looks archaic inside compared to the Vette's luxury. The Boxster is a little more nimble, but it is wrought with problems, from electrical to the power roof. It's a nice little car, but a money pit.
The only complaint I have about the Vette is that at my age, it's difficult to get in and get out of, especially in the garage next to another car, but I easily overcome that obstacle.
I wish I'd bought one sooner.
Why wait? saving some money up... we just put up a 3 car garage and now i want a car that is 'garage worthy'
great insight and stories... its gonna be a long winter waiting...
Until you compare them, you don't find out the things that distinuguish the models. Things like squeeks, rattles, blind spots, driving feel, acceleration, etc. I thought a coupe would offer the open air benefit of a vert with the practicality of a hard top. I was wrong. A ride in a vert with the top down is a much different experience than riding in coupe with the roof out.
Also, make sure you consider every color combo. You won't be able to see each one in person but you should be able to find pics of any one by searching in this forum. You don't want to buy a torch red vette and then fall in love with a mag red vette that you pass on the way back from the dealer.
Last, test drive automatic and manual transmissions to find out which one you like best, or if you don't have a preference either way.
Once you decide what vette you want...don't compromise! Search until you find the one you want for the price you feel is reasonable. Then, enjoy it!

its like having your greatest dream being fulfilled, a dream you had since childhood. You feel like running home everyday just to look at it, even after years of ownership. She makes you feel alive, you just can't get enough of that awesome sounding engine as it rumbles to life, the speed, the maneuverability, the feeling that you can accelerate to infinity.
As a little kid, I grew up loving cars. I had a huge matchbox and hotwheel collection by the time I was 4. My most favorite toy was a fisher price push car which I got at 2 years old, then I graduated to my big wheeler with the emergency 90 degree brake. From there it was my first bike. I just loved speed since I was a kid. And I loved sports cars. I always dreamed of owning a corvette or a ferrari or a lamborghini. In college, my notebooks were filled with sketches of the soon to be released C5, which all the car mags were leaking information of. From the specs, the price, and the looks of the renderings, I knew that was the car I was going to own, one way or another. It took me 4 years of saving, struggling to get a better job but when I was finally in a position to buy the car of my dreams, I did it and it was the most wonderful experience of my life. That day was truly a culmination of a lifetime of dreaming.
I didn't sleep at all the day before I picked her up at the dealership. Heck, I don't think I got a goods night rest for about a month before picking her up. When I finally sat down in my brand new corvette, I felt so happy, I got all teary eyes as I touched the steering wheel and realized that this vette was all mine. The smell of the leather was entoxicating, I could have spent the next week locked inside. The 50 mile drive hope was pure bliss as I got familiar with my dream car. Even today, I still feel the same way as I did the day I picked her up and I'll know that it'll always be like that.
The second pic in my signature is from the day I picked her up at the dealership. The only thing that could possibly top that day will be someday when I have my first kid, well second kid.
If you're still on the fence about whether or not you should get a vette, I say do it, do it now, do it as fast as you can by whatever means necessary so that you can know what we all feel. Good Luck!
I can totally understand things like kids going nuts for it and that sort of thing being part of the experience, but what is it about driving/owning the car that elicits such profound emotion?
