I have a security systeme question that you all may be able to help me out with.
Last night I stopped at the convenience store to pick up some milk. I went out to the vette and pushed the unlock button. The horn started blaring and the lights were turning on and off. I tried to disarm the alarm by using the key fob but all to no avail. The only way that it shut off was after I was able to open the door with the key. This was tough because you have to do it quickly because as soon as you unlock it, the doors immediately lock again. I put the key in the ignition and the alarm shut off. Any thoughts?
Another problem that I had on the way home was that after about 3 minutes of driving I had greatly reduced power. I was getting close to my house and I stepped on the gas a little to go up a hill and I just had no power. I down shifted to 4th and still nothing (usually I can go up this incline in 5th with no problem). Then I downshifted to 3rd and still nothing. I downshifted to 2nd and then the car surged forward and all of the power was back. I have driven a standard shift car for many years so I know how drive one and it wasn't a matter of it being in too high a gear. There were no problems indicated on the DIC, e.g reduced engine power. Any thoughts?
I'll have to check the battery. I haven't looked under the hood recently. I didn't check the codes because nothing was displayed, but there may very well be codes.
i know this is probably going to sound stupid.. but are you ABSO-freaking-LUTELY sure that you hit the "unlock" button? and.. not the slightest chance you might've inadvertantly pressed the "panic" button on the fob without realizing it?
cuz.. if you did.. it would cause the EXACT "symptoms" you're describing. don't ask my how i know.

That was my first thought to, but I looked down and my thumb was still on the unlock. Anything is possible as it pertains to me. If I did push the panic button, you should still be able to shut it off with the key fob..not sure why it wouldn't shut off.
Are you sure you can shut it off with the key fob? I hit the panic once and I had to put the key in the ignition to turn it off. If the fob can do it I would sure like to know how.

The leaky battery is a good place to start. Could also just be your computer that controls these things is going wacky. Had this happen to a '94 I had. Once they replaced the computer, all worked well.
