not the same old CLB thread...please read

okay, I will try to keep this relatively short...
shortly after being bit by the CL bug and installing a CLB I started having some goofy problems with the BCM. I could drive all day and when I shut the car off, it would not restart.
I took the key chain off the keys… which worked for a while.
I tried using my other key… which helped for a while.
I tried cleaning the ignition switch… which worked for a while.
I got a brand new key… which worked for a while.
I think you get the picture. Knowing that there have been claims about the Column Lock Bypass causing problems with the BCM, I decided to take out the CLB and take my chances with the column locking up on me. For about a month I had no issues with the car starting and I was convinced that there was something to the rumors about the CLB causing problems!
Well, last night my little gremlin surfaced again… not only that, I got the pull key… wait 10 seconds message! I got the car to start and then the column locked up on me while the car was in motion!!! (I realize that is what the recall is to fix, but I have heard very few stories about it actually happening.) I reinstalled the CLB and I was getting the “service column lock message after starting the car… so I then pulled fuse #25 and reinstalled the CLB and now I will never have to worry about that again.

So soon I will be off to the dealer to get the ignition switch replaced… (thanks clutchdust
) and hopefully that will put an end to the only thing that has been less than perfect in my year and a half with my C5.Bottom line… my computer problems are not related to the CLB & everyone should just put in a bypass!!!!!!!!
After installing/uninstalling/installing/uninstalling/installing my CLB too many times to remember in the last few months… if anyone in the Omaha area wants help doing it, I am a pro. I can do it in about 15 minutes
dont know why that is, but I wont be having any recall done now that my CLB is working perfectly

Next day no codes. Third day, "service.." code and I'm locked up in my garage. Ok, I'm just thankful not to be out somewhere.
I get my CLB from Corvettes of Houston, get it in and I'm still coding!!
Removed the 25 and 29 fuses and I'm still coding!!
Called COH and found out the blasted cloumn locker will still have to go to Chevrolet because it's shorted out, and THEN I can install the CLB!
Just add me to the list of thousands that have had to deal with something that should have been fixed in '98!!

can you get the column to unlock?
if you can get it to unlock... pull the #25 fuse again and put it back in.
then clear the DIC codes.
then give the CLB another shot. Before you try the install again, check to make sure that the little 1A fuse in the cigarette lighter unlocker thingy isnt burnt out. That is one of the problems I came across. You should be able to hear the CL move when you plug in the lighter... maybe the problem is that the unlocker isnt actually unlocking before you install the CLB?
I have heard that once the CL locks up you cant put in the CLB until it has been addressed by a mechanic... I followed these steps and mine never went to the dealer and now my CLB works fine
