Default 1Source vs Warranty Direct

Did a search and the consensus is these two or GM's through D Fichner, who I have not yet called. The cost difference between 1Source and Warranty Direct is more than $1,000 more for Warranty Direct for same length of coverage and what appears to be the same covered components. That seems like too big of a difference. 1Source was also in the top 10 of some website that evaluates extended warranties, Warranty Direct wasn't rated on there. What am I missing? How can there be such a difference?

both are great companies..
something is not right.. these two companies are always within a few dollars of each other..as far as service they both are top notch..
I know the D&B rating on Warranty Direct is "A Superior" whicj is the highest rate D&B offers..
So one of them low balled you or one of them got the wrong information..
here is some info on Warranty Direct:
Experience
Well over 1.5 million contracts sold.
Over $400 million in claims paid.
Over 800,000 claims paid.
Over 9,000 claims handled every month.

Stability
A Forbes Magazine Top 200 Company- three times.
Over $140 million in assets, mostly in insured claims reserve accounts.
Celebrating our 25th year in business and 10 years on the Internet.
D&B rating "A Superior" highest in the industry
Reliability
Over 18,000 dealers and repair facilities do business with Warranty Direct.
Over 2,200 car dealers, banks and credit unions sell our coverage.
ZERO Better Business Bureau complaints in the past 16 months.
That is over 144,000 claims without one single complaint..
Licensed and approved to do business in all 50 states.

Coverage
It's a Wear and Tear Warranty not a breakdown only warranty
A breakdown warranty means the car has to be broken to be fixed
A Wear and Tear Warranty is much better, because something could be failing, and still be fixed.. e.g.. alternator bearing starting to go bad..
A Wear and Tear claim will fix this before you get stuck..
A Breakdown Warranty means you have to be stuck somewhere before they will fix it.
The industry's most comprehensive coverage.
Wear and tear, seal and gaskets, overheating- all covered!
No restrictive, vague or fuzzy contract language.

When your vehicle breaks down or starts to fail, Warranty Direct pays.

I used their website and just double checked. 2002, 20,500 miles, 6 yr, 100,000 miles, 100 deduct each best. I guess I could call Warranty Direct and ask why the big difference.

I just spent the last two weeks trying to decide between the two. I also found that 1Source was a little less expensive ($200) with better coverage 60/55,000 compared to WD who was 37/36,000.

I hope I made the right choice. I checked about everything I could think of. My choice was finally based on 3-4 threads I posted here asking fellow forum members what they thought. It was about 50/50 so I went with the longer coverage for a little lesss $$$.

Good luck

The Only thing I know that is negative about 1Source is they will not cover any part that has been part of a recall.. eg. seat adjuster.. 750 dollars installed.
Not sure iof they will cover emissions modules. Other wise a good company.

Default GM Major Guard coverage plan

FWIW, when I bought my '04 a few months back I searched online and found discounted factory plans from Black's Pontiac Cadillac (http://www.gmoutlet.com/gmpp.htm). For my plan (class 5, 84 months, 70K miles, $100 deductible) I saved $500 over the list price that my dealer was offering.

They have all their prices online so it makes it very easy to compare. Having had problems with aftermarket warranties in the past (for Toyota and Ford vehicles) I personally stick with the manufacturer's plans now. Just my $0.02

Evil,

I think the rocking seat was a TSB, not a recall. I believe under a recall, that part has to be fixed whether you are under the factory warranty or not. If that's the case, I wouldn't expect any warranty to foot that bill.

There were two reasons why I chose Warranty Direct over 1st Source. I had both policies and looked them over very carefully. The 1st Source had 2 clauses that I didn't like:
1 - The effective date is one month and 1000 miles from the VSA issue date. Given that mine is not a daily driver, it could have taken several months to fulfill this requirement.
2 - Clause at Section 2, paragraph 2. "...The decision to repair, replace or ship in covered components/parts shall be at the Administrator's sole discretion. THE ADMINISTRATOR SHALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR FACILITY OF ITS CHOICE." - emphasis added
I didn't find this clause or anything like it in the Warranty Direct policy, and this was enough to push me to a Warranty Direct purchase.

Thank you BobbyD I stand corrected..I do remember someone getting turned down for a seat adjuster by 1 Source.. about two months ago..The reason I rememeber was I just had my seat adjuster fix by warranty Direct without issue..and this guy said 1 Source turned them down..

Thanks all. JackTs, that is enough to put me with WarrantyDirect, also, presuming the price difference is just a couple hundred, along with all the good stuff I have been reading about them here. I just have to call my dealer and make sure he honors that (my dealer is great!, Steve Spencer rocks) and check out GM with Dave Fichner. Seems to be a flurry of posts about extended warranties.

Just a side note...I had WD on my 01 Coupe.
6 year/75K miles zero deduct bought April 2003.

I traded the car in and faxed a refund request last Thursday.

On Friday, there was a $1156 credit on my MC.

Formula for figuring pro-rata refund was 74% minus $50 fee.

I never had a chance to use the policy but was glad I had it.
Took the worry out of a potentially big expense.
