Default cold air screen install question

how do i access the stock panels where the fog lights are? From under the car, or inside the engine compartment?

Also- anyone have pics of the stock or cold air panels so that I can see the bolt pattern?

Thanks!

According to the service manual, you remove the access panels in the front of the inner fender wells, then access the fog light panels from underneath the car.

There is, however, a tech tip on this forum where someone said they did it from the top, after removing headlight bezels and such. Personally, I'd rather go from underneath.

I also think the after-market cold air screen holes are too big, so they'll let much more debris in than the Z06-type screens. I also suspect that once you get the original panels out, it'll be extremely difficult to put them, or the after-markets, back in. Although I feel the Z06 screens aren't nearly as classy and clean-looking as the open recess on the non-Z06 models, I think you're better off using only the Z06-type screens after yanking the stock panels.

I want to do a cold air screen mod, but was thinking of also retrofitting the after-markets with fiberglass window screening or something, instead of just allowing debris to get into those gaping holes (or even modding my stock panels), but I'm wary of trying to get either the modded or after-market panels back in, you know what I mean? If you do decide to tackle it, please keep us posted, so the rest of us know how difficult (or not) replacing them might be.

Racr,

West Coast Corvettes sells a cold air screen for our cars. They also have a very good .pdf file explaining the procedure of getting to, taking off, and installing their product. I think you can wing it from there.

I have been contemplating doing this myself. I have heard even with a lift that you will need patience. You will most likely need to get under the car but no more than using a pair of ramps.

Let me know how you do.....

Do it from under the car. The access panel is not too hard to take off and then you have a much more open space in which to work.
