Do you think that it is possible to bend your pushrods in an automatic?

It's possible to bend pushrods in any hi revving, high compression car.

How could you bend 'em with any transmission? What about the rev limiter?

Downshifting at too high a speed for the lower gear.

I generally try to keep my pushrods in my engine. Putting your pushrods in your transmission is probably a bad idea.

Particularly since the engine is in front and the tranny is in back. That's a long way to go just to bend a pushrod.

Okay, let me re-phrase, how do you bend your pushrods without doing something REALLY stupid?

Stated like that, you most likely won't. It's the "stupid" things that will cause damage in any vehicle.
Why are you wondering specifically about the pushrods?

I up and down shift my automatic and drive at red line many times per day... with the occasional bump of the rev limiter. I just drive it hard because it's fun... I bought my Vette for fun. My push rods are fine.. so far.
However, I have seen a number of posts by people that have bent push rods. It is recommended to replace them if you do a head cam upgrade (stronger valve springs cause more pressure on the push rods). So the pushrod (and valve springs) are just items that were engineered to match the performance of stock setting with allowance for some aggressive driving.
Push the limits for too long and something is bound to happen... I'm probably lucky at 53,000 miles.

You can bend pushrods in any engine if the valvetrain geometry is off

Our local, very smart, Vette technician told me that any downshift into the 7,000+ rev range will start bending some rods.
