Default Vararam - Cleaning Filter

Can someone please explain how I go about removing the air filter so I can clean and re-oil it? I know I need to flip open the two latches on the sides. But beyond that, I am stuck. Many thanks. BTW, if it matters, I have the V1B version.

The easiest way to get it out is to remove the entire intake piece up to the throttle body.
Loosen the band clamp at the throttle body and pull that end free. Disconnect the wires from the MAF. Loosen the two rubber latches on the vararam. Remove the rubber hose connected to the top of the vararam. Then pull the whole intake assembly (Vararam piece and your airbridge/MAF sensor still all connected together) from the car. That will give you access to the filter.
I used the K&N filter cleaning kit to clean my vararam filter. It worked rather well. But, I did over oil it a bit. So be careful there and don't go overboard on the oil like I did.

I use the fram kit. Sucks for us as there is no eaier way to do it and that is too much for the track. The F bods remove thier filters and see 1mph gain. Anyone have an idea if we remove the vararam filter, any increase? Thanks!

Dr. Ron: That's what the guy who installed it for me said. So when I unlatched the two latches on the sides I expected to be able to wiggle the top and bottom apart just enough to pop the filter out. But it's in there so tight it won't budge. Ugh!

Thanks Dave, but I went a best of 11.67 w/ Vararam & LS1 Edit tuning only (on street tires). I now have a set of DR's & I've been waiting for some cool air. I'll be going Sat. to the ECSCC so hopefully I'll best that time!!

Dr. Ron,
Wow that is moving! The air is cool here in NC and I am hoping to pick up a 1/10th Thur. My 01 with a Vararam, and 295 35 18 DRs has been running 12.35s now and I am happy. You are the man!

Thanks Dr Ron! I am hoping for a 12.2 Thur @ test and tune... we have some cold dry air coming in and it should be in the 60s here plus our track got huge prep last week for an all nighter. Good luck and get er done!
Dave
PS I changed from Zaino too and love the new NTX but need a detailer to go with it... Any ideas?
