Alternator appearance
As a 97 with 50k on the clock my alternator is looking a little weathered with oxidation. Is there any safe way to clean or polish the casing of the alternator to make it look a little brighter/cleaner? Thanks in advance for any replies.

and the polish to use is
Simichrome . It's not cheap, but a little bit goes a long way.

Thanks for the replies. I just wasn't sure if I could safely polish it with out risking damage to the windings. I'll look into the polish recommended.

You can take a can of alumium spray paint, spray some on a cloth and rub it on to the part. If you don't like the appearance of it , it can be removed by using mineral spirits before it dries.
It does a fairly nice job and you might like it.
Make sure you clean the part good first so the paint will stick before you apply the paint.

I forgot to mention... you don't need to order it online (unless you prefer to). Most BMW motorcycle shops carry it.

Semichrome is a very good polish - I used to use it all the time on my motorcycle and it really does the job.
