Default Cams Cams Cams

Has anybody used one of the Crane "Quick-Lift" cams? I know Crane's reputation has been tarnished over the years but it is what I used when I was building cars longer ago than I care to admit.

The one in particular I was looking at was the 1449591 (specs 224/224 .551/.551 114 ls). I am assuming this would work OK with stock LS6 heads plus a Vararam and LG header with high flow CATS. I do not want to invest in heads at this time or a new throttle body. Please tell me if that is a bad assumption.

Also has anybody used the Crane power programmer? What is tempting about the Crane cams is supposedly their programmer has various programs that are tailored to their cams with options for headers/high flow intakes ect. I have yet to learn of a good tuner in St. Louis so it would be nice to have something close on tuning till I can find some one to do it right.

The other thing I was wondering about is, is there adequate vacuum at idle with a cam of these specs? I was also wondering what would be the approximate rwhp with this setup.

Any help you guys could provide would be appreciated.

just something to consider...i know several folks running the 228/114* cam and their cars have good street manners plus nice power...very close to 224 but just a little extra.

Thanks for your input.

I like the numbers that C5 CU is putting out. Pretty much where I want to be some day. I am hoping the combo I am looking at will be good for at least 400 rwhp and high 11 quarters (assuming I can actually drive that well).

I will eventually want to get AFR heads and a 90mm throttle body and intake so I am wondering if I should go with 1 7/8" headers. I would like to only buy headers one time. Have any of you seen any data on a comparison of 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8 headers?

I'd go with the LGM's on a 346. the 1 7/8ths stand to loose you a bunch of HP an Tq. I thought there were some tuners in St. Louis, as we have some members there.

As for cam recommendations, my thoughts on cams vary from other folks...

J-ROD let me know if you hear of any tuners in St. Louis. I am starting to buy parts now. I liked the LGM package better than the rest so I am glad to hear what you had to say about the 1 7/8 headers.

I learned from the LGM site that their headers are made by Borla which is a good thing.

Thanks for the input.

I'd recommend MC Racing here in Kansas City. I know of at least one person from St. Louis that made the trip and had their highly modded car running like a champ once they left.....

Thanks! I need an excuse for a road trip anyway and KC is as good of a place as any.
